Stockton Ports News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Oakland A's proudly announced the field staff for the Stockton Ports 2013 season. Manager Webster Garrison returns for his third season in Stockton. Joining Garrison for the Ports staff are pitching coach Jimmy Escalante, hitting coach Haas Pratt, and athletic trainer Travis Tims.

"We are very thrilled to have the level of experience from our field staff as the Ports make a run for an unprecedented 12th League championship title," said Ports President Pat Filippone. "I look forward to working with them both on the field and in the community".

Garrison returns for his third tour of duty in Stockton. In 2012, the Ports posted a 56-65 record and in 2011 he led Stockton to a berth into the California League Championship Series. During the 2011 season, Garrison led the Ports to an unprecedented 17-game win streak. Garrison holds a 131-149 mark as the Manager of the Ports. Prior to joining the Ports in 2011, he served as the hitting coach for Midland Rockhounds (Double-A) from 2009-2010.

Jimmy Escalante spent the 2012 season as the pitching coach of the A's Arizona Rookie Affiliate. In 2011, Escalante was the pitching coach for the Burlington Bees (Low-A) ballclub. The Bees posted the second lowest ERA in the Midwest League (3.45) and tossed the second most shutouts during the season (12). Escalante is familiar with Northern California as he makes his off-season home in Woodside.

Oakland's 30th round selection of the 2004 draft out of the University of Arkansas, Pratt is a familiar name to Ports fans. Pratt spent four seasons in the A's minor league system and the majority of the 2006 campaign as an OF/INF with the Ports. During his time as a player, Pratt knocked in 16 RBI over a 35 game stretch with Stockton. Pratt spent the last two seasons as the Burlington Bees (Low-A) hitting coach.

Travis Tims enters his sixth season with the A's organization. Tims spent the 2012 campaign with the Burlington Bees (Low-A). Tims spent the 2008-2011 seasons as the Athletic Trainer for the A's short-season clubs. In 2010, Tims was named the Athletic Trainer of the Year in the Northwest League.

Notable Alumni assignments:

Darren Bush

After a successful minor league manager tenure which included the Ports 2008 Championship, Bush has been named the Oakland A's bullpen coach for the 2013 season.

Steve Scarsone

After spending the last two seasons with the Midland Rockhounds (Double-A), Scarsone has been promoted as the manager of the Sacramento River Cats. Scarsone led the Ports to the playoffs in 2010.

Brian McArn

The Elk Grove native spent the last two seasons as the hitting coach for the Ports and has been promoted to Double-A to serve in the same capacity with the Rockhounds.
