Orlando Solar Bears News Release

Ontario, CA - The Solar Bears surrendered three first period goals before suffering a 6-2 loss at the hands of the Ontario Reign at Citizens Business Bank Arena in southern California on Wednesday night.

Just past the halfway point of the first period, the Reign struck for the first goal of the contest. A shot from the blue line was deflected by LW Kyle Clifford and high up in the air to find its way just past G Hannu Toivonen at 11:35. Ontario increased their lead to 2-0 when LW Colton Yellow Horn snapped a shot into the top right corner of the net less than two minutes later. A late period power play chance saw Yellow Horn lift a rebound over the shoulder of Toivonen with 20 seconds left in the period, but the Solar Bears answerd with 2.5 seconds left in the first when a pass from C Ryan Cruthers made its way to F C.J. Severyn on the right goal post to cut Ontario's lead to 3-1 heading into the first intermission.

Another late period goal helped the Reign restore their three-goal advantage. With just 10 seconds left in the period, F Kyle Kraemer curled out of the left circle and snapped a shot just under the crossbar for a 4-1 lead. The Solar Bears were held to just one shot in the middle frame.

After two fighting majors were issued to each team along with two game misconducts midway through the third period, the Solar Bears capitalized on a power play. D Bryce Lampman collected the puck at the right point and LW Nick Petersen redirected his blast to bring the game back to a 4-2 score with 7:49 left to play. The Reign struck back with two goals in 20 seconds, one of which completed a hat trick for Yellow Horn, as Ontario skated away with a 6-2 victory.
