TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: With back-to-back wins under their belt, tonight the Cyclones welcome in the Evansville IceMen for the first of two straight battles at U.S. Bank Arena. Evansville squeaked out a 4-3 win over the Clones back on November 15 in the season series opener despite being heavily out-shot. They will meet a total of 13 times in 2012-13.
SCOUTING THE ICEMEN: Rich Kromm's club snapped its three-game losing skid on Saturday night by handing the Reading Royals their first defeat in 12 contests. Despite the win, Evansville still remains in the basement of the North Division and toward the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings with a record of 6-12-0-1. Veteran forwards Todd Robinson and Josh Beaulieu lead the IceMen offensively with 16 points (1 goal, 15 assists) and 14 points (7 goals, 7 assists) respectively. Of Robinson's 15 assists, 12 of them have come on the power play - which ranks him second best in the ECHL in that category. Former Cyclone Nathan Moon registered an assist in the first meeting this season and now ranks fourth on the team in scoring with 10 points (4 goals, 6 assists). Between the pipes, Paul Karpowich has earned Evansville's last two victories and owns a 3-5-0-1 record with a 3.33 goals-against average. Rob Madore, who earned the "W" over Cincinnati last time out, is 3-7-0 with a 3.21 GAA.
AHL Reinforcements Arrive: After spending the last few games with Milwaukee, the Cyclones received Josh Shalla and Charles-Olivier Roussel from their AHL affiliate. Shalla posted a pair of assists in his recent call-up while Roussel logged 10 penalty minutes with a +1 rating in one game at the Triple-A level.
While Two More Head Up: Cyclones forwards David Pacan and Jonathan Hazen have been among the most consistent players of late. Because of this, they both have been summoned to the San Antonio Rampage.
The New Guy: Cincinnati fans will see a new face this week in the form of forward John McFarland. The rookie has logged three assists so far in his pro career with the San Antonio Rampage. A 2nd round pick of the Florida Panthers in 2009 spent his amateur days in the OHL, amassing 189 points in 217 games over 4 seasons.
Defense Early, Defense Often: The Cyclones have been one of the more consistent defensive teams this year. They are allowing an average of 2.69 goal per game, which ranks fourth-fewest. In addition, their 11 goals surrendered in the opening period are fewest among all ECHL teams in that category.
