Arizona Storm Win Round One of Local Rivalry

November 27, 2012 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) Arizona Storm

Phoenix, AZ - In the first ever meeting between the two state rivals, the Arizona Storm emerged at the victor in a thrilling 10-8 victory over Real Phoenix.

Both teams went into the half on equal terms but the second half told the real story of the game.

The Storm used a second half surge to pull away from Real who was plagued by missed shots and opportunities in front of the goal.

"We came out really hard in the first five minutes then went just went lax for the next 20 minutes or so," said Arizona Storm F David Hague. "Coach chewed our ass out of half and said lets go 80% in the third, and 100% in the fourth, and it worked out for us."

The Storm ended the third quarter with a two goal advantage and slowly built upon that in the fourth quarter. Real kept fighting to get back in the game but issues that have affected the club for the last three games emerged again.

"We didn't follow our runners, started off slow, got back into it and then we are letting away stupid goals," said Real Phoenix captain Greg Veatch.

Many of those goals were due in part to a lack of communication between the team. Goals off of set pieces, goals off of counters and goals when subbing will usually mean doom for a team. That was the case for Real as they are still looking for a identity after losing their third straight.

The Storm looked far more comfortable on the field which may be due to playing at home. Real Phoenix has a chance to get even On December 1st, when the teams play again at Real Phoenix's home field.
