Mallards Weekly Update

November 26, 2012 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Quad City Mallards News Release

QUACK TRACKS

Busy

The Mallards went 1-2-0 last weekend while playing three games in three nights for the fourth time this season. Beginning with a 2-1 shootout loss last Wednesday in Fort Worth the Mallards played four games in five days in four different cities, a run during which they went 1-2-1. The Mallards are also fresh off a stretch of seven games in 10 days during which they went 3-3-1. By the time the Mallards finish their game with the Missouri Mavericks this Saturday night, Quad City will have played ten times in 16 days.

On the Road

The Mallards have gone 0-3-1 in their last four away games after going unbeaten in regulation (2-0-1) in their first three road games. The Mallards are in the midst of a stretch during which they will play seven of nine games on the road.

The Mick

Mickey Lang (9-9-18) has recorded at least one point in 12 of the Mallards' 14 games. Lang, whose eight-game point-scoring streak ended last Wednesday at Fort Worth, leads the league in shorthanded goals (2), is tied for sixth in goals and is tied for tenth in points.

Streaking

Brett Robinson (6-1-7) has scored in each of the Mallards' last four games and has totaled six goals in nine games since joining the team earlier this month.

Between the Pipes

John Murray (4-2-3, 2.29, .929) ranks third in the league in save percentage and fourth in goals against average. Murray made 26 saves without giving up a goal in 50 minutes and 51 seconds of relief action in the Mallards' win over Tulsa last Saturday. That bounce-back victory came one night after Murray's six-game regulation unbeaten streak ended last Friday in Wichita.

Saturday Night Fever

The Mallards defeated Wichita last Saturday after losing their first four Saturday games. The Mallards lost both last Friday and yesterday after going without a regulation defeat (5-0-3) in their first eight non-Saturday games.

Sunday No-Fun Day

Yesterday's 7-2 setback at Bloomington was the Mallards' most lopsided loss of the season. In that defeat, Quad City established team season highs for most goals allowed in one game and one period (four in the third).

Tight

Before yesterday's loss, the Mallards' prior five games and seven of their previous eight outings were decided by just one goal.

Power Play

The Mallards remain last in the CHL on the power play (7.7 percent). Quad City has gone 4-for-52 on the man advantage this season and is 0-for-14 over its last five-plus games and 1-for-27 over its last eight games.

Shorthanded

The Mallards lead the league in shorthanded goals (4). Lang scored his second and the Mallards' fourth shorthanded goal in last Friday's loss in Wichita. Lang is the only player in the CHL who has scored two shorthanded goals this year. The Mallards have scored as many times shorthanded as they have on the power play this season.

Milestones

Captain Darren McMillan is on course to play his one hundred fiftieth consecutive game for the Mallards this Saturday night against Missouri...Brett Robinson is three points away from 100 for his career... Patrik Levesque last Saturday reached 250 career points while playing his one hundredth game as a Mallard.

Head-to-Head

The Brahmas' 2-1 shootout win over the Mallards last Wednesday was the first ever meeting between the two clubs...Friday's game is the first of four straight battles with the Mavericks for the Mallards. After tussling over back-to-back nights this weekend, the two clubs will play another home-and-home series when they collide Friday, December 7(in Moline) and Saturday, December 8 (in Independence). In all, the Mallards and Mavs will get together a total of 13 times this season. The Mallards went 5-2-1 against Missouri last year and have gone 7-6-2 against the Mavericks since entering the CHL in 2010.

Cory McGillis (concussion) and Jason Kostadine (lower body injury) are on 14-day injured reserve.
