Rockets Roll Past Everett

November 25, 2012 - Western Hockey League (WHL) - Everett Silvertips News Release

EVERETT - The Everett Silvertips couldn't stifle the explosive offense of the Kelowna Rockets Sunday evening, dropping an 8-2 decision at Comcast Arena. The loss ended a three-game home winning streak for Everett, who will now look to rebound Tuesday night on the road against the rival the Seattle Thunderbirds.

Dawson Leedahl scored the first goal of his WHL career in defeat, with Tyler Sandhu netting his ninth of the year to take over sole possession of the team lead as well. Both Everett goals came on the powerplay, where the 'Tips finished 2 for 7. Kelowna was 1 for 3 on the man-advantage as the Rockets finished the weekend with a total of 22 goals scored on their way to sweeping a three-in-three weekend.

Zach Franko scored first for Kelowna on the powerplay when his shot ricocheted off a skate in front into the net. Everett got on the board with a powerplay goal of their own after Landon Oslanski's shot caromed off the cross bar before Tyler Sandhu tapped it in to tie the game at one. The Rockets responded 41 seconds later on an odd-man rush, with Ryan Olsen scoring from the top of the circle to make it 2-1 after one.

Kelowna scored twice in the second to increase their lead to 4-1 after two periods. Following an initial flurry of shots at 4:19, the Silvertips couldn't clear the zone and Madison Bowey's shot from the blue line ultimately found its way in. Henrik Nyberg then made a stretch pass to Carter Rigby, who snuck behind the defense and scored the Rockets' fourth goal.

A tough third period saw the Rockets score four more times, with Rigby completing a hat trick between goals from Colton Heffley and Myles Bell to give the visitors an 8-1 lead. Everett got one back on a late powerplay when Dawson Leedahl skated into the high slot and ripped a wrist shot off the post and into the top corner for his first career goal.

Austin Lotz (3-9-0-1) stopped 28 shots in just over 46 minutes before being replaced by Daniel Cotton, who stopped five shots in 13 minutes of relief. Jackson Whistle (6-0-0-0) stopped 22 shots to earn the win in goal for Kelowna. Final shots were 41-24 in favor of the Rockets.

Next up for the Silvertips is a Tuesday night contest in Kent, where they take on the Seattle Thunderbirds for the third time this season at 7:05. The 'Tips will then host two more weekend home games Friday night against the Vancouver Giants at 7:35 pm and Saturday vs. the Portland Winterhawks at 7:05 pm.

Season tickets, mini-game packages and single-game tickets for the Silvertips' 10th Anniversary season at Comcast Arena are on sale now.
