Jr. Blues fall to Topeka 5-2

The Springfield Jr. Blues had trouble finding ways to stop the Topeka RoadRunners, which beat Jr. Blues, 5-2.

Kyle Sharkey had two goals to lead Topeka to victory. Sharkey's tallies came on the power play at 16:15 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and 17:24 into the first to make the score 2-1 Topeka.

The RoadRunners pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 28 penalty minutes.

Topeka took advantage of Springfield's penalties, tallying three goals off of five power play opportunities. By firing 38 shots on goal, the RoadRunners exceeded the 25.7 shots they average per game this year.

Topeka additionally got points from Peter Halash, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Topeka also got a goal from Brandon Bistodeau as well. More assists for Topeka came via Patrick Pollock, Jake Kamrass, Tyler Poulsen, and Sean Gaffney, who contributed one a piece and Dan Dupell and Tyler Andrew, who each chipped in two.

Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. With 48 shots on target during the contest, the Jr. Blues exceeded the 30.4 shots they average per game this year.

Springfield was helped by Dylan Rosen, who finished with one goal. Rosen scored 1:42 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Springfield. James McGing assisted on the tally. Jack Sloan also scored for Springfield. In addition, Springfield received assists from Nick Anderson, who had one.

Spencer Viele made 46 saves for Topeka on 48 shots. Ryan Kellenberger recorded 33 saves for the Jr. Blues. Springfield incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
