Connecticut Whale News Release

HARTFORD, November 15, 2012: AEG Management CT announced today that the XL Center and the Connecticut Whale, along with We Recycle!, will conduct an E-waste collection drive at the Whale's home game this Friday, November 16 vs. the Portland Pirates, and at the Kellogg's Tour of Gymnastics Champions event this Saturday, November 17 at the XL Center. This initiative is in conjunction with AEG 1EARTH and America Recycles Day.

Hockey and gymnastics fans are encouraged to bring used electronics goods to the Whale game, and to the Kellogg's Tour of Gymnastics Champions, for collection. Items to be collected include: cell phones, pagers, I-Pods, laptops, computer mouses, cameras and DVD players. Kiosks will be arrayed in the XL Center Atrium throughout the two days' events, for deposit of the used electronics.

All the items collected at the hockey game and the Kellogg's Tour of Gymnastics Champions will be picked up by We Recycle! and transported to their processing plant, where the hazardous materials will be removed, and the remaining materials will be sent to a shredding facility.

AEG, a company that champions sustainability, is taking action now to set new recycling standards for the live sports and entertainment industry. The company's iconic sports and entertainment venues are the perfect backdrop for taking this national conversation to local communities and a symbol of the efforts made every day to reduce the environmental impact of their operations across the globe. This America Recycles Day, 21 of AEG's clubs, theatres, arenas and stadia will host recycling and cause-related collection drives for staff and guests including five public e-waste collection events in four states with e-stewards certified recyclers. This is a part of the organization's new E-steward Enterprise commitment to use e-Stewards® licensed recyclers for responsible disposition and recycling of its own electronic equipment across North America.

As a company, AEG is dedicated to reducing its environmental impact, which includes properly handling e-waste. Electronic equipment and gadgets have, at their end-of-life, become the largest toxic waste problem of our time. When disposed of improperly, the toxic materials in modern electronic equipment can cause cancer, reproductive disorders, and other health problems when the toxic materials are burned or dumped in landfills. The worst effects of e-waste are felt by the countries in Asia and Africa where U.S. e-waste is exported. The Basel Action Network developed the e-stewards certification program to ensure responsible e-waste solutions exist in the United States and to stop the mishandling and exporting of e-waste to other countries.
