LEWISTON, ME - The Sharks scored three third period goals as the Worcester Sharks (7-5-1-1, 16pts) came-from-behind with a 4-2 victory over the divisional rival Portland Pirates (5-5-1-1, 12pts) at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston, ME on Wednesday night. With the win, the Sharks swim past the Manchester Monarchs for the top spot in the Atlantic Division.

Goaltender Alex Stalock improved to 7-0-0 in his last seven starts with 20 saves and Sebastian Stalberg, James Sheppard, Tim Kennedy, and Matt Irwin scored goals in the win for Worcester. The Sharks scored two goals in 68 seconds midway through the third period to cap their AHL leading 3rd win when trailing after 40 minutes.

In a common occurrence of late for Worcester, the Pirates would score on their first shot on goal as Rob Klinkhammer (4th) broke down the left side on a 2-on-1 break and ripped a shot from the left circle past Alex Stalock at 1:08 to give Portland a 1-0 lead. Rookie Sebastian Stalberg (5th) slid a one-timer shot from the left slot on the power play between the pads of Portland netminder Mark Visentin at 3:57 assisted by Matt Tennyson and Matt Irwin to tie the score at 1-1. After a couple of big checks by Matt Pelech, Mark Louis (2nd FM) challenged Pelech (4th FM) to a long fight at 13:46 to highlight a physical opening frame. The Sharks led in shots 12-7 through 20 minutes of play.

Rob Klinkhammer (5th) scored the only goal of the middle frame with a one-timer shot from the right circle to finish off a 2-on-1 with Brendan Shinnimin at 8:27. Each team had a 5-on-3 power play late in the 2nd period but could not convert as the Pirates took a 2-1 lead into the 2nd intermission despite Worcester holding a 22-16 shot advantage through 40 minutes.

Worcester would come barreling back with three third period goals to shock the Pirates in the final frame. James Sheppard (2nd) tied the score at 2-2 at 11:05 with a terrific individual rush and finish down the left wing to begin the comeback for Worcester. Just 68 seconds later, Tim Kennedy (5th) gave Worcester a 3-2 advantage with a slap shot from the blue line that snuck through the pads of Visentin at 12:13 assisted by Bracken Kearns and John McCarthy. The Pirates would have a later power play and pull their netminder but Matt Irwin sealed the win with an empty net tally at 19:52 to give the Sharks a 4-2 win.

The Sharks overall record improves to 7-5-1-1 (16pts in 14gp) and 3-3-0-1 (7 pts in 7gp) on the road this season.
