Las Vegas Legends News Release

November 1st 2012 vs. Arizona Storm

The Las Vegas Legends started the 2012-2013 campaign with convincing home victory vs. the Arizona Storm 11-2. The Legends got off to a quick start with 2 first quarter goals by Richardino, Enrique Tovar assisted on both 1st quarter goals. The Legends were poised on the defensive side of the ball and went into the intermission up 3-0 with some outstanding goalkeeping by Zeke Sanchez. The Legends outscored Arizona in the 2nd half 8-2 to end the match with a score of 11-2. Offensively forward Richardino, who finished with 5 goals and 1 assist, led the Legends. Legends captain Enrique Tovar finished with 2 goals and 3 assists. Rounding out the Legends scoring was Franck Tayou (2 goals), Carlos Bordinhao (1 goal), and Esad Morina (1 goal). The Legends defense was up to the challenge only surrendering 2 goals. Goalkeeper Zeke Sanchez finished the game with 8 saves on 10 shots faced. Legends Head Coach Greg Howes "Our overall team defense was superior tonight along with our Goalkeeping. Offensively we had some players with big nights, but overall our possession and ability to keep the ball for long periods of time was lacking. Our main goal was to get to 1-0 on the season and we accomplished that. It was a great start to the season"

November 4th 2012 vs. Anaheim Bolts

The Legends (1-0) wrapped up their home stand vs. the Anaheim Bolts 1-0). The Legends went down early in the first quarter 4-0. The Bolts bend but don't break mentality was spearheaded by some outstanding Goalkeeping by Manubu Kaji. The Legends opened the game with countless offensive opportunities, but still found themselves down 4-0 at the end of the first. The Legends found their offense in the 2nd quarter with 4 unanswered goals to go to halftime tied 4-4. Rodrigo Barbirato, Berto Garcia, Enrique Tovar and Felipe Gonzalez all scored one apiece before the halftime break.

The second half started off with the Legends peppering the Bolts goal only to come up empty. The Legends were unable to convert on a Penalty kick after an on field confrontation. The Bolts took advantage of the missed opportunity and went up 5-4 on a goal by Luis Gonzalez, who ended up with 4 on the night. The Legends tied it up 5-5 with a goal by Enrique Tovar. The Bolts responded with 4 unanswered to go up 9-5 with 11:00 minutes to go in the contest. The Legends rallied in the 4th to pull to within 9-8 on goals by Tovar, Franck Tayou and Roberto Garcia with less than 3 minutes to go. The Legends pulled GK Jesus Molina to go on the 6th attacker in the last 2 minutes and saw the Bolts convert on 2 open net goals. The final score of 11-8 didn't reflect how close the game was and the loss was the first on the season for the Legends. Coach Howes: "We played well enough to win tonight and created lots of scoring opportunities, but we lost. We ran into a Goalkeeper that was seeing the ball well and made some incredible saves. WE failed to capitalize on our scoring opportunities early and that came back to bite us. Going down 4-0 was difficult as we expended extra energy to get tied before halftime. Defensively we were porous and not committed. It's disappointing at home to have that effort on the defensive side of the ball. This week we will recommit ourselves to defending. Some of the goals we gave up are unacceptable. We will watch film and train to correct those issues."

November 9th 2012 vs. Turlock Express

The Legends got their first road win of the year 10-6 vs. the Turlock Express. Coming off a home loss, coach Howes expected his team to come out with more fire and passion for the first Road Trip in Legends history. The team didn't let him down. Coming out to compete was the Legends #1 focus this week. The Legends seemed ready to battle from the opening whistle. The Legends were looking to dominate the Express physically. After watching the Anaheim game I challenged the team to come out and play a physical game from start to finish. It was very apparent early that our guys came to battle. Winning on the road is always difficult and am proud of the guys tonight. WE stuck together and were committed to defending and on the road that's how you get W's.

November 10th 2012 vs. Sacramento Surge

The Legends played their first back-to-back game on the young season. Riding the momentum from the win the night before, the Legends came out and Physically dominated the Surge in route to an 8-2 victory. Forward Rodrigo Barbirato found the net twice in the first half only to be issued a Red Card for entering the field during an altercation. The Legends eventually wore down the Surge with its aggressive attacking and defending style. Legends Goalkeeper Jesus "Chuy" Molina was on point allowing only 2 goals all night. "Our goal going into the road trip was to pick up 2 wins and we did that. WE did a lot of great things on the defensive side of the ball. Offensively we put up points, however we have some area we have to improve on and we will. To go back to back on the road and get 2 wins, gives up some confidence and momentum as we head to Mexico next weekend". Six different Legends players found the back of the net, highlighted by a Josh Copeland 30 yard bomb into the upper corner in the 3rd quarter.

Next opponent:

Las Vegas Legends @ Mexico Toros Sunday November 19th 2012

The Legends (3-1) head to Mexico to take on the Toros Sunday November 19th at 3:00pm. The Legends are looking to go 3-0 on the road to start the season. This is a crucial inter division game early in the season; it is the first of 3 games vs. the Toros this season. The Legends are riding the momentum of last weeks 2 road key road wins and hope to pick up a victory south of the Boarder. Forward Rodrigo is not available due to his Red Card in Sacramento. Coach Greg Howes had this to say: "Traveling to Mexico to take on the Toros is always a difficult challenge. They are very good at home; we will have to match their work rate from start to finish if we want to be successful. If we bring the same mentality this weekend as last we will give ourselves an opportunity to get a result. If we don't bring the competitive mindset, then we could be coming back home with our first road loss of the season."

Legends among league leaders:

Legends forwards Enrique Tovar and Richardino sit atop the league-scoring race. Tovar is leading the league with 14 points and 8 assists to go along with 6 goals. Richardino is tied for 2nd in points with 11pts on 8 goals and 3 assists.

Brazilian connections heats up on road trip.

Fellow Brazilian's Richardino and Rodrigo help Legend to 2 key road wins. Accounting for 8 goals and 2 assist on the weekend, both players showed flashes of why they are 2 of the more exciting players to watch in the PASL this season.

Legends Goalkeeping tandem impresses:

Goal Keepers Zeke Sanchez and Jesus Molina split the weekend games and showed that the Legends have one of the top 1-2 punches in the PASL. Sanchez had a stellar performance vs. Turlock allowing only 1 run of play goal. The Express converted on 4 power plays and a 6th attacker goal. Molina backed up Sanchez performance only allowing 2 goals, one of which was a power play goal in the waning moments of the Legends 8-2 victory Saturday night.

Road Warriors:

The Legends improved to 2-0 on the road. Giving up only 8 goals in 2 games the Legends defensive unit is poised to continue its stingy ways. Defending on the road is the only way to give your team a chance to win.
