Missed Opportunities Doom Jacks, 4-2

ODESSA, TX -In the second of twelve scheduled regular season games between the two teams this year, the Odessa Jackalopes failed to convert on six power-play chances against the NAHL's worst penalty kill in a 4-2 loss to the Wichita Falls Wildcats on Saturday at Ector County Coliseum. With the loss, the Jackalopes fell to 4-11-2 overall this season and with ten points, remain alone in sixth place in the NAHL's South Division standings. Saturday's loss was Odessa's first regulation defeat at the hands of Wichita Falls in Jackalopes franchise history.

For the second consecutive night, Josh Racek opened the scoring for Odessa, netting his third goal of the season and third in his past three games at 5:28 of the first on feeds from Ryan Doucet and Cody Slocum. Doucet's assist, his first of two points on the night, extended the San Jose, California native's season-long point streak to five games.

Entering the second period down by a goal, Wichita Falls came to life in the middle frame, netting back-to-back goals at 4:12 and 19:06 of the period, courtesy of Conor O'Neil and Kyle Bauman, respectively. Then in the third, a Wichita Falls tally from Eric Grauer pushed the Wildcat lead to 3-1 at 11:23.

Tyler Minx responded with his second goal of the season on a rebound put-back less than one minute later with Lawrence Cornellier and Doucet assisting, but an empty net goal from Grauer at 18:56 sealed the win for the Wildcats. Grauer finished with two goals, four total points and the game-winning tally.

One night removed from his first career NAHL shutout, Odessa goaltender Blake Wojtala stopped 19 of the 22 shots he faced and earned the loss in his third consecutive start in net for the Jackalopes. Despite four chances in the third period and six total opportunities, the Odessa power-play was ineffective on Saturday, failing to draw blood against the Wildcats' league-worst penalty kill.

Next up for the Jacks, it's the tail end of a four-game homestand beginning Monday at 7:05 pm at Ector County Coliseum in the third meeting of the season between the Jackalopes and the defending Robertson Cup champion Texas Tornado.
