The Portland Winterhawks (14-3-1-0) scored four straight third period goals to put away the Vancouver Giants (5-13-0-0) for a 9-5 win Friday for their 10th straight victory.

The nine goals are a season high for the Hawks, and gave Portland their first 10-game winning streak since Oct. 15 - Nov. 10, 2010.

Vancouver opened the scoring 3:51 into the game with a goal by Anthony Ast, but from there the Hawks took control of the period. Portland's Adam de Champlain tied the game at the 5:49 mark, and it remained 1-1 until late in the period. At the15:18 mark Taylor Peters carried the puck into the Vancouver zone and fired a shot between the pads of Giants netminder Payton Lee to make it 2-1. Then with under a minute to go in the first, Brendan Leipsic scored a power play goal to give Portland a 3-1 lead heading into the second period.

The Giants got within one when Trevor Cheek scored 6:27 into the second to cut the lead to 3-2, and then Cheek tied it at 3-3 with his second of the period at the 8:53 mark on a power play. Portland regained the lead at the 14:22 mark when Tyler Wotherspoon scored to make it 4-3. Then on the ensuing faceoff, Taylor Leier was forechecking behind the Vancouver net, stripped the puck from a Giant and brought it out front and scored to make it 5-3 just 11 seconds after Wotherspoon's goal. After Leier's goal, the Giants replaced Lee in net with Tyler Fuhr.

Vancouver once again tied the game with early third period goals from Marek Tvrdon and Carter Popoff to make it 5-5. Mac Carruth then took over in net for Brendan Burke. As they did in the second period, the Hawks once again broke a tie with two quick goals. Petan added his second of the game at the 16:41 mark on a power play to make it 8-5, and de Champlain made it 9-5 with his second of the night at the 18:40 mark to round out the scoring.

Ty Rattie extended his league-leading point streak to 12 games with three assists. He's amassed 12 goals and 14 assists for 26 points during the streak.

With a goal and an assist tonight Brendan Leipsic extended his scoring streak to six games, with goals in all six games and five multi-point games, totaling seven goals and seven assists for 14 points.

Derrick Pouliot has a five-game point streak of his own, with one goal and eight assists for nine points.
