Jacks Snap Streak with Dramatic 1-0 Win

November 9, 2012 - North American Hockey League (NAHL) - Odessa Jackalopes News Release

ODESSA, TX -In the first of a four-game homestand, the Odessa Jackalopes clawed their way to a gritty 1-0 victory Friday at Ector County Coliseum in the first of twelve meetings with the Wichita Falls Wildcats this year. With the win, the Jackalopes improved to 4-10-2 overall in 2012-13 and with 10 points, remain alone in sixth place in the NAHL's South Division standings. The win, the Jacks' first in eight games, snapped the team's season-long winless streak and was Odessa's eighth consecutive win over Wichita Falls all-time.

In a peculiar game rife with oddities, the only goal of the contest came just 12 seconds into the action when Jacks centerman Josh Racek potted his second goal of the season and second in as many games on feeds from Ryan Doucet and Lawrence Cornellier. With the assist, Doucet extended his season-long point streak to four games, notching his sixth point over that span in Friday's game.

Late in the first period, Wichita Falls defenseman Marshall Tema collided awkwardly with the endboards in the Wildcat zone and lay motionless on the ice for 10-plus minutes while being attended to by both teams' training staffs and EMT's before being wheeled off the ice on a stretcher. Late word from a Wichita Falls executive is that thankfully, Tema is doing fine, has feeling and movement in all extremities and will be held in the hospital Friday night, purely as a precaution.

In his second consecutive start in net for Odessa, Trenton, Michigan native Blake Wojtala stole the show, stopping all 31 of the Wildcat shots he faced en route to his third victory and first shutout of the season. Held without a power-play for the majority of regularion, the Jackalopes' man advantage unit was unable to exploit Wichita Falls' league worst penalty kill on two late opportunities.

Next up for the Jacks, it's the finale of a two game weekend series with the Wildcats and the second game of a four game homestand Saturday at 7:05 pm vs. the Wildcats at Ector County Coliseum.

In 2012-13, the Odessa Jackalopes drop the puck on their second season as a member of the North American Hockey League. Season ticket packages for the Jacks' sophomore campaign are available now starting at just $179.
