Rangers Manager Ron Washington Joins Arizona Fall League Hall of Fame Friday

November 8, 2012 - Arizona Fall League (AzFL)

Phoenix, Arizona - Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington, who helped establish the Fall League in its first two seasons, joins the AFL Hall of Fame Friday night, November 9 in pre-game ceremonies at Surprise Stadium (Peoria Javelinas vs. Surprise Saguaros).

"Ron has become one of the most respected managers in baseball," says Fall League Director Steve Cobb, "and we're indebted to him for playing a role in the crucial early years of the Fall League."

Washington, a two-time Arizona Fall League hitting coach (1992 Sun Cities Solar Sox, 1993 Tucson Javelinas), guided Texas to back-to-back American League pennants and World Series appearances in 2010-11. From 2008-11, he became the first manager in Rangers' history to increase his team's win total in four consecutive seasons.

In six seasons at the Texas helm, Washington boasts a 520-452 composite record that translates to the highest managerial winning percentage (.794) in Rangers' history (minimum of two full seasons). He also remains the only manager in Texas/Washington franchise annals (1961-2011) to win a postseason series. His postseason record is 18-16.

Washington has guided the Rangers to first- or second- place finishes in the American League West Division the past five seasons.

He joins Bobby Cox, Charlie Manuel and Joe Torre as the only managers in the Division Series era to advance their clubs to consecutive World Series.

In 2012, Washington added the honor of managing the American League All-Star Team.

Arizona Fall League Hall of Fame - The Arizona Fall League, founded in 1992, formed its Hall of Fame in 2001 to honor the top major-league players and managers who honed their skills in the AFL. The selection committee, chaired by baseball ambassador Roland Hemond, the "Architect of the Arizona Fall League," bases its appointments upon individual achievement at the major-league level since participating in the Arizona Fall League.
