Nothing But Treats in Saints 2013 Schedule

October 31, 2012 - American Association (AA)
St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN (October 31, 2012) - Like a bag full of candy on Halloween the official release of the St. Paul Saints schedule is just as sweet. The 21st season of Saints baseball will once again feature interleague play, a 100 game schedule in 110 days from May 16-September 2 and more than 13,000 miles in travel over the course of the entire season.

The season kicks off on Thursday, May 16 at 7:05 p.m. with a four game series against a yet to be determined Can-Am League team. At this time the Can-Am League consists of the Newark (NJ) Bears, New Jersey Jackals, Rockland (NY) Boulders, Quebec les Capitales, Worcester (MA) Tornadoes and the Tros-Rivieries (QC) Aigles.

The Saints longest trip away from home is a 10 game slate during their annual High School Tournament road trip from May 28-June 6, which will once again take them to three separate Can-Am cities (TBD). Last season the Saints traveled to Quebec, Newark, NJ and Little Falls, NJ. The two longest homestands of the season are seven games from August 9-15 and August 19-25. The Saints have just one homestand longer than four games from Opening Night until July 25, which is a six game homestand from June 7-13.

There are plenty of weekend dates to choose from with 28 of the 50 home games taking place Friday-Sunday with post-game fireworks following every Friday night game (eight total) and three holiday Post-Game Fireworks Super Shows on Sunday, May 26 (Memorial Day), Saturday, July 6 (Independence Day) and Sunday, September 1 (Labor Day).

Game times for all Saints home games are Monday-Saturday at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday 1:05 p.m. with a few exceptions. Sunday, May 26 is a 5:05 p.m. game, Wednesday, June 26 at 1:05 p.m., Wednesday, July 31 at 1:05 p.m., Tuesday, August 12 at 12:05 p.m., Sunday, September 1 is 7:05 p.m. and the final day of the season on Monday, September 2 is 1:05 p.m.

The American Association will remain a three division league, North, Central and South. The Saints will remain in the North with the Fargo-Moorhead (ND) RedHawks, Sioux Falls (SD) Fighting Pheasants and Winnipeg Goldeyes. The Central Division consists of the Gary SouthShore (IN) Railcats, Kansas City (KS) T-Bones, Lincoln (NE) Saltdogs, Sioux City (IA) Explorers and Wichita (KS) Wingnuts. The South Division will have the Amarillo (TX) Sox, El Paso (TX) Diablos, Grand Prairie (TX) AirHogs and Laredo (TX) Lemurs. For the third consecutive year the season will be a continuous schedule, with no halves, and the playoffs will consist of the three division winners and a wild card team, which is the club with the best overall record among the non-division winners.

The Saints will play 37 games against their own division (17 home, 20 road), 35 against the Central Division (22 home and 13 road), 14 against the South (7 home, 7 road) and 14 games against the Can-Am League (4 home, 10 road). For the first time since the Lincoln Saltdogs began playing in 2001 the Saints will not make a trip to Haymarket Park, but will make their first trip to Laredo, who played their first season in the American Association in 2011.

Once again the Saints schedule is heavily loaded to the second half of the schedule, playing just 19 of their first 46 games at home. They play seven games in May, 12 in June, 11 in July, 18 in August and two in September.

The first visit by the defending American Association Champion Winnipeg Goldeyes will be from June 17-19 and the defending North Division Champion Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks will visit Midway Stadium for the first time from June 11-13. The only American Association team the Saints will not play is the Amarillo Sox.

Group and specialty seating tickets will go on sale in December while single game tickets will go on sale in March. For more information contact the Saints ticket office at 651-644-6659 or visit saintsbaseball.com.
