Krauskopf Promoted to President of Indiana Fever

October 30, 2012 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) Indiana Fever

INDIANAPOLIS - Kelly Krauskopf, the Indiana Fever's chief operating officer since the franchise was founded in 1999, has been named President and General Manager. "We are fortunate to have Kelly as the leader of the Fever," said Herbert Simon, Fever owner. "She is a wonderful person with great basketball knowledge who is highly respected throughout the country."

Her experience before joining the Fever had prepared her well. Krauskopf has been a member of the committee to select the women's roster for the Olympics since 2000, and was in the forefront of the development of the WNBA. She served as the WNBA's first Director of Basketball Operations, was Assistant Commissioner of the Southwest Conference, and served as Texas A & M's Assistant Athletic Director for Women's Sports. A 1983 graduate of Texas A & M University, Krauskopf was a three-year basketball letterwinner for the Lady Aggies.

Since the team was established, Krauskopf has been the guiding force of the Fever in both building the team roster as well as expanding the fan base. Since adding general manager to her title in 2004, she has guided the franchise to eight consecutive playoff berths, including a runner-up finish in 2009 and culminating with this year's WNBA Championship.

One of the WNBA's most active general managers, Krauskopf's draft choices, trades and free agent acquisitions have established the Fever's position as the only WNBA team ever to post seven 20-win seasons during an eight-year span.

"The Indiana Fever won the 2012 WNBA Championship because of Kelly's overall leadership along with the roster and coaching staff she assembled," Simon continued, "and I'm pleased to look toward the future with her as President and General Manager of this franchise."

A WNBA playoff participant in eight straight seasons and nine times since 2002, the Indiana Fever has reached at least the Eastern Conference Finals in five of the past eight years. Participating in the WNBA Finals for the second time in four years, the Indiana Fever became the champion of women's basketball after defeating the Minnesota Lynx for the 2012 WNBA championship.
