Connecticut Whale News Release

The Whale are coming off of a perfect week, having posted their first three wins of the season to climb to the even mark, at 3-3-1-0 for seven points. Connecticut tasted victory for the first time on the campaign Wednesday night in Albany, in a 5-2 win over the Devils. The first home triumph of the season came Friday night, as the Whale downed the Hershey Bears by a score of 3-1, and Ken Gernander's club made it three in a row on Saturday at home, knocking off the Providence Bruins 6-3, despite being outshot by a margin of 40-23. Cam Talbot played his first action of the season in the Whale net Friday and Saturday, coming within 6:35 of a shutout against Hershey and stopping a total of 63 out of 67 shots. Defenseman Logan Pyett netted the game-winner Saturday with his first Whale goal, and also added three assists for four points on the week.

This week:

The Whale make a return visit to Albany to battle the Devils on Friday night (7:00 PM faceoff), then play a 7:00 Sunday-night home game against the Springfield Falcons at the XL Center.

Friday, November 2 at Albany Devils (Times Union Center), 7:00 p.m.

- This is the second trip in ten days for the Whale to the capital of the Empire State. The Whale dealt the Devils a 5-2 defeat at the Times-Union Center this past Wednesday.

- Following that Wednesday-night loss, the Devils bounced back Friday to beat the Adirondack Phantoms, 5-1, for their first home win in four tries. On Saturday night in Hershey, though, Albany was shut out by the Bears, 3-0. Head Coach Rick Kowalsky's Devils are 2-4-0 on the year for four points.

- Mike Hoeffel and team co-leading point-scorer (4-2-6) Jacob Josefson scored the Albany goals in Wednesday's loss to the Whale, and Keith Kinkaid made 21 saves in net.

- Radio - live with Bob Crawford on "Beethoven Radio" AM 1290, and on-line at www.ctwhale.com.

Sunday, November 4 vs. Springfield Falcons at the XL Center, 7:00 p.m.

- Note the unusual Sunday starting time for this game. The 7:00 faceoff is due to an arena changeover at the XL Center.

- At this game, and all Whale Sunday home games, fans can purchase "Click It or Ticket Sunday Family Value Packs", which include a ticket, a hot dog or a slice of pizza and a soda, for just $18 each.

- The Falcons, who have missed the playoffs for nine straight seasons, are off to a 5-1-0-1 start under new head coach Brad Larsen and lead the Eastern Conference with 11 points.

- Jonathan Audy-Marchessault, who tied for the Whale's team points lead last season with 24-40-64 in 76 GP, currently tops Springfield skaters in points with 2-5-7 in seven games. He is followed closely by Greenwich, CT native Cam Atkinson, who is tied for second with 3-3-6. Audy-Marchessault signed as a free agent this summer with the Falcons' parent club, the Columbus Blue Jackets.

- This is the first of 12 meetings on the year between the Whale and the Falcons, Connecticut's closest regional rival and most familiar opponent. Last season the Whale went 7-4-0-1 in 12 games against Springfield, including a mark of 3-2-0-1 at home.
