Rush Announce Dave Jamieson as PresidentOctober 5, 2012 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) - Edmonton Rush
Jamieson joins the Rush after 14 years with the Canadian Football League's Edmonton Eskimos where he served as the Director of Communications and Marketing (1998-2010), and Vice-President of Communications and Broadcast (2010-2012).
"We took a great deal of time selecting the right person to fill the role of Team President, and I could not be more proud to have found that person in Dave," said Urban. "Dave's commitment to the sports community of Edmonton has been long and noteworthy, and we expect this to be a great next chapter in that history.
"Dave's knowledge of the sports landscape in Edmonton will be vital to capitalize on as we move forward with ticket sales and sponsorships. The 2013 National Lacrosse League season will be a huge one for the Rush as we intend to build on our 2012 West Division Championship and bring the Champion's Cup to Edmonton."
Born in Edmonton but raised in Vancouver, Jamieson is a life-long fan of lacrosse having played the game and attending Vancouver (now Maple Ridge) Burrards games for many years.
"I'm thrilled to join the Edmonton Rush and help Owner Bruce Urban and General Manager/Head Coach Derek Keenan deliver on their goal of bringing a Champions Cup title to the City of Champions," said Jamieson.
"With first overall pick Mark Matthews and rest of the 2012 draft class joining a solid returning corps of players, the Rush are poised to deliver an exciting and winning brand of lacrosse to Edmonton."
During Jamieson's tenure with the Eskimos, the team consistently led the CFL in attendance, and he also took a lead role in negotiating radio rights agreements. Jamieson served on the advisory committees for the 2002 and 2010 Grey Cups held in Edmonton, and was also co-chair of the league's communications committee which drafted and implemented a national media policy for the CFL.
Prior to joining the Eskimos, Jamieson was a reporter, newscaster and sports talk-show host in Vancouver for several years before joining 630 CHED in Edmonton as Program Director in 1994 where he helped lead the fledgling news-talk station to its top spot in the ratings. He also served as the executive producer for the station's sports properties broadcasts: the Edmonton Oilers, Edmonton Eskimos and Edmonton Trappers.
Dave and wife Holly Krueger are parents to son Danny (13), and daughters Abby (15) and Lindsay (18).
Earlier this week the Edmonton Rush selected Denver University standout Mark Matthews with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft.
The six-foot-four, 230-pound forward is one of the most highly regarded draft-eligible players over the past 15 years, and is expected to instantly spark the Rush offense when the team begins the 2013 NLL season in January. Matthews will wear No. 42 on his Rush jersey.
Being drafted by the Rush reunites Matthews with his former junior coach, Rush General Manager and Head Coach Derek Keenan. Matthews played a starring role on Keenan's Whitby Warriors which claimed the 2011 Minto Cup national Junior "A' championship. The win with Whitby was Matthews' second straight Minto success after being part of the victorious Coquitlam club in 2010.
A dynamic offensive presence, Matthews finished his four-year career at Denver with a school record 216 points and 155 goals. The Oshawa, Ontario, product also completed his collegiate tenure on a 45-game point scoring streak, which helped him earn his second straight ECAC First Team honors and All-American status.
Along with being the ECAC's Offensive Player of the Year, Matthews' collegiate accolades included 30 hat tricks and 21 power-play goals, and completing his time at Denver as the second-leading active goal scorer and fourth active leader in career points amongst all NCAA players.
Matthews already has a taste of pro lacrosse as he was taken in the first round of last year's Major League Lacrosse College Draft by his home-town Denver Outlaws. In just nine regular-season games, Matthews put up 19 goals and nine assists - four of his goals coming in his debut against Chesapeake.
2013 Season Tickets are on sale now and available by calling the Rush office at 780 732-RUSH.
