'Topes Stars Herrera and Fife Recalled to Los AngelesSeptember 11, 2012 - Pacific Coast League (PCL) Albuquerque Isotopes
Herrera enjoyed a break-out season with Albuquerque, batting .341 in 64 games while hitting 20 doubles, 10 triples, three homers, and driving in 40 runs. His success with the Isotopes earned him his first Major League call-up on May 15 to Los Angeles, where he batted .244 with 10 doubles, a triple, a homer, and 16 RBI in 53 games. Herrera was also hot for the Isotopes during their playoff run, batting .400 in five games. In the "Topes' amazing seventh-inning comeback against the Storm Chasers on September 8, Herrera became first player in Isotopes history to hit two triples in a single inning.
Fife also had an excellent season in his first season at the Triple-A level which also resulted in his Major League debut. In 25 games (24 starts) for Albuquerque, Fife went 11-7 with a 4.66 ERA, allowing just 13 home runs over his 135.1 innings-pitched. On July 17, the right-hander made his first Major League start against the Philadelphia Phillies and pitched well, allowing just one run on four hits in 6.0 innings en route to a no-decision. In three starts with the Dodgers, Fife went 0-1 with a 2.16 ERA. The right-hander was also key during the "Topes' playoff run, picking up a crucial win in Game Two in Omaha on September 6 after conceding just three runs on seven hits in 7.0 innings of a 5-3 Isotopes triumph.
Including Herrera and Fife, the Isotopes had 13 players, excluding rehabs, play in both Albuquerque and Los Angeles in 2012.
