Long Island Ducks News Release

(Central Islip, N.Y., Sept. 3, 2012) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Somerset Patriots 4-3 on Monday night in the first game of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

Long Island jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on a two-run homer by Lee Cruz in the second and a solo blast by Bryant Nelson in the third off Patriots starter Chase Wright. Somerset would grab a run in the sixth to cut the deficit to two on a RBI single by Yunesky Sanchez off Ducks starter Chris McCoy.

A three-run eighth inning for the Patriots put them ahead for good. Jesse Hoorelbeke tied the game with a two-run homer, and Adam Donachie grabbed the lead with a RBI single to left.

Neither starter factored into the decision. McCoy allowed just one run on six hits while striking out two in six innings, and Wright yielded three runs on five hits with three strikeouts in six innings. Brandon Braboy earned his second save by recording the final two outs.

Brandon Sing led the Ducks with two hits while Cruz added two RBI.
