Eaton Named 2012 PCL Most Valuable Player
August 30, 2012 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1) News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Adam Eaton of the Reno Aces has been named the 2012 Pacific Coast League Most Valuable Player, the league announced today.
Eaton was voted the PCL's MVP - the 76th in league history - after a balloting of the 16 field managers as well as media representatives from across the league.
Eaton, 23, has played in 116 games with Reno this season, and leads the league in batting average (.379), on-base percentage (.452), runs scored (117), hits (181), doubles (44), stolen bases (37), and total bases (256). In addition to his contributions at the plate and in center field, the Aces' leadoff hitter has stayed remarkably consistent through the season, as he never hit below .351 in a month and has helped Reno hold first place in the Pacific Northern division since late May.
Selected by Arizona in the 19th round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft, Eaton has found success at every level he has played in. Promoted to Triple-A after just 11 games in the Southern League at the start of this season, he was selected as the PCL's starting center fielder for the Mid-Season All-Star game, going 1-3 with a leadoff hit and a run scored in the 3-0 win over the International League. On Monday, Eaton was named as an outfielder on the league's Post-Season All-Star team, and on Tuesday he was named the PCL Rookie of the Year.
Among the others to receive votes for the Most Valuable Player award were Ryan Wheeler (Reno), John Ely (Albuquerque), Jerry Sands (Albuquerque), Anthony Rizzo (Iowa), and Wil Myers (Omaha).
All statistics are through Wednesday, August 29th.
