Knighthawks to Train Next Generation of 'World Champions"August 27, 2012 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) Rochester Knighthawks
Arrow Express Sports will hold its winter box lacrosse leagues from Monday, October 8th to Sunday, March 3rd at the facility in Hagersville, Ontario on Second Line Road . The league offers kids an opportunity to play at one of the premier practice and exhibition facilities for the NLL and the Knighthawks. Rochester Knighthawks players that will serve as instructors in the winter league include Mike Accursi, Matt Vinc, Cory Vitarelli, Craig Point and Alex "Kedoh" Hill.
"Lacrosse has given me some of my greatest memories. To have the opportunity to pass on my love for the sport is something that I look forward to," said Knighthawks Alternate Captain and three-time NLL Champion Mike Accursi. "Working with youth is a passion of mine. I am excited to be a part of such a great program."
"I am going to try to motivate the children by letting them know what it takes to get to the pros," added Knighthawks forward and NLL veteran Craig Point. "I love passing on my knowledge to younger upcoming stars. It will make me proud to know what I've done for them as a role model in helping them reach their goals."
Aspiring goalies will learn from one of the top netminders in the NLL in two-time league Goalie of the Year Matt Vinc. "Vno" backstopped the Knighthawks to the 2012 Champion's Cup. The All-World Goaltender will mentor the youngsters as he shares his passion for lacrosse.
"It is always great to be able to give back to the game. It is also refreshing to see how much the kids really enjoy playing the game," said Vinc. "It reminds me of why I fell in love with the game at a young age."
Hill, who recently won the Major Series Lacrosse Rookie of the Year Award, cannot wait to take part in the league right at his home arena. This summer, the former Six Nations Arrows star has continued his success with the senior "A" Chiefs.
"My motivation is my passion for the game. My parents always taught me to give back and share what I have," said Hill. "This is my opportunity to teach the kids what I know about the game and have fun in the process."
Arrow Express Sports, which owns and operates the Knighthawks and Hamilton Nationals, will run the league for boys from Tyke to Intermediate Division. The cost is $200 per player. Girls can participate in an outdoor league. The cost is $150 per player and ranges from girls 7-years-old and up to 15 and up. The league will be beneficial to the kids and the professional players.
"I've always love having a good backyard game with the youth when I get the chance," said Hill. "For me, it is rewarding to see the kids having fun playing lacrosse."
