
RailHawks look to extend lead for playoffs

CARY, NC - The Carolina RailHawks (6W-7T-7L, 25 pts.) will host FC Edmonton (5W-6T-10L, 21 pts.) on Saturday, August 18th at 7:00 PM in a crucial match with playoff implications. Currently the RailHawks are in the 6th and final playoff spot 4 points ahead of the 7th place Eddies. A win would give the RailHawks a 7-point difference. Colin Clarke's squad has 8 games left, with the rest of the league having only 6 or 7 games left.
"We are in the final stretch of the regular season and every game is of the utmost importance," said RailHawks Head Coach Colin Clarke. "We've had incredible fan support at home with our 12th man and we'll look to rebound from last Saturday's road loss with a victory for the fans."
LAST TIME OUT
The RailHawks travelled to Florida to play against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. The match ended with a 1-0 victory for the home team. A mistake on the RailHawks half gave way to a quick counterattack by the Strikers and Andy Herron buried the shot to the far post from the top of the box. Ray Burse finished the match with 5 saves. Brian Shriver, Greg Shields, and Zack Schilawski returned to the starting lineup.
SERIES HISTORY
FC Edmonton and the RailHawks have played twice this season. The played once in Canada and once at WakeMed Soccer Park. The Eddies won the match in Canada 3-0 with a Shaun Saiko hat trick. The RailHawks won the second match between both teams 2-0. Colombian midfielder Breiner Ortiz scored his first career goal and Nick Zimmerman added the second goal to secure the 3 points.
NEXT GAME
The Carolina RailHawks have two road matches before returning to WakeMed Soccer Park. On August 25th at 7:30 PM, the RailHawks will visit the Silverbacks in Atlanta. One week later on September 1st, the RailHawks will visit the Puerto Rico Islanders at 7:30 PM. Both matches will be shown live online at www.CarolinaRailHawks.com/live . On Saturday September 8th, the RailHawks will return to WakeMed Soccer Park for a home game at 7:00 PM against the San Antonio Scorpions.
