Giants and Volcanoes Extend Player Development ContractAugust 16, 2012 - Northwest League (NWL) Salem-Keizer Volcanoes
The Agreement was signed in the dugout at AT&T Ballpark prior to the Giants' game on Monday versus the Washington Nationals as Mickey Walker, son of Volcanoes' Jerry and Lisa Walker, was working as the Giants' batboy for the Nationals game. Volcanoes' President, Jerry Walker, and Vice President of Stadium Operations, Rick Nelson, met with the Giants' Vice President of Baseball Operations, Bobby Evans, to sign the Agreement.
"We are extremely happy about our association with the Giants," said Walker. "We've had a stretch of very good clubs here in Salem-Keizer winning our Division Championship in 4 consecutive years (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009). Our fans like the association with the Giants as many of our fans are lifelong Giants fans," noted Walker. "The Giants have enjoyed being a part of the Salem-Keizer community and have particularly appreciated the commitment of the Volcanoes' ownership and management team in the assistance they provide in helping us develop our young players," said Giants Vice President of Baseball Operations Bobby Evans. "We look forward to continuing an already great association with the Volcanoes."
