Lions Host 'Riders in Key West Division Battle Sunday Afternoon

August 16, 2012 - Canadian Football League (CFL) B.C. Lions

The BC Lions (4-2) host the Saskatchewan Roughriders (3-3) in a key West Division tilt on Sunday afternoon. The Leos come into the game having won their past two games including an 18-9 victory over the Toronto Argonauts prior to the bye week. The "˜Riders are going in the opposite direction, having dropped three consecutive games after defeating the Lions 23-10 in a Week 3 matchup in Regina.

Lions quarterback Travis Lulay sits third among quarterbacks with 1,636 passing yards and headlines a Lions offense looking to keep its winning ways in front of what will be a boisterous BC Place crowd on Sunday afternoon. The Lions have the top-ranked offence going into Week 8 averaging 400.5 yards per game including a CFL-best 139 rushing yards per outing. Saskatchewan's defence has been through some shootouts lately and ranks fifth, allowing 375.8 yards per game.

On defense, the Lions will try to continue their stingy ways having not surrendered a touchdown in the past two games and nine total quarters dating back to the team's loss against Edmonton. A big part of their success on D comes from getting pressure on the quarterback which the Lions have done to the tune of a league-leading 16 sacks heading into action this week.

The Lions and the "˜Riders meet four times in 2012 and the men in Orange would enjoy not only avenging their earlier loss, but also setting their division rivals back another game in the standings.

Tickets for Sunday's big game are available by phoning 1.855.GO.LIONS or visiting bclions.com. Fans can also visit Lower Mainland 7-Eleven locations and save $10 per pair off the price at the gate.

All the fun starts on the Terry Fox Plaza at 2:00 pm with the BC Lions Street Party presented by Nissan. In addition to face painting, poster making, interactive games and a performance by the 2012 Felions, fans will also be treated to some great live music from British Columbia's own Mary's Gunns courtesy of SiriusXM and its "Rock the Grey Cup" contest.

In celebration of the 100th Grey Cup, SiriusXM is searching for Canada's favourite emerging band to play at this year's festival in Toronto. Music lovers and football fans can vote for their favourite band and enter to win a VIP trip for two to the Grey Cup this November. Voting starts September 10 - visit facebook.com/siriusxmcanada for more information.
