Williams Perez Throws One Hitter: D-Braves Win 7-1August 8, 2012 - Appalachian League (ApL) - Danville Braves Press Release
In the first, the Royals scored their first and only run of the game. Shortstop Humberto Arteaga hit his team-leading 11th double of the season. Center fielder Bubba Starling reached on a fielding error when third baseman, Carlos Franco, failed at an attempt to backhand the ball. With runners at the corners, third baseman Patrick Leonard lined into a fielder's choice, which scored Arteaga and opened the scoring in the Royals' favor, 1-0.
The D-Braves batted around and took the lead on six straight hits in the third inning. Shortstop, Jose Peraza, second baseman, Levi Hyams, Franco, and designated hitter, Trenton Moses, all teamed-up for four straight singles. Left fielder, Edison Sanchez, and first baseman, Aris Alcantara, then hit back-to-back RBI doubles to make it 5-1.
With two outs in the sixth, right fielder, Felix Marte, hit a two run home run, his seventh of the season, to pad the Braves lead, 7-1. All seven of the D-Braves' runs were scored with two outs.
Between Perez and reliever Eduardo Castillo, the D-Braves sat down 21 Royals in a row before first baseman Mark Threlkeld broke that streak with an eighth inning single. Threlkeld's single marked the Royals second hit of the game and first since the first inning.
Perez pitched 7.0 innings and allowed one run (unearned) on just one hit. He recorded five strikeouts and no walks in his second start against the Royals this season. Castillo and Jeremy Fitzgerald combined to pitch 2.0 innings of scoreless relief.
Daniel Hernandez is the pitcher of record for the Royals. He threw 5.0 innings and allowed five runs (all earned) on seven hits.
Tomorrow night's game will feature the on field antics of the final Inflatamaniacs Performance of the season.
Lucas Sims will toe the rubber for the D-Braves. Lefty Patrick Conroy will go for the Royals. Game time is 7:00 p.m. and gates will open an hour beforehand.
