August 8, 2012 - Major League Soccer (MLS) Portland Timbers

Timbers have a break in league play before two-game road trip next week

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers have a 10-day break in play before facing Toronto FC at BMO Field on Wednesday, Aug. 15, to kick off a two-game road trip against Eastern Conference clubs. The Timbers then visit the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena on Sunday, Aug. 19.

The Timbers recently wrapped up a stretch of 11 consecutive matches against Western Conference opponents in a 1-1 draw against FC Dallas on Aug. 5, at JELD-WEN. Midfielder Jack Jewsbury provided Portland's equalizing goal to earn the result.

With the matches against Toronto FC and New York next week, the Timbers face their first Eastern Conference opponents since playing host to the Chicago Fire on May 20. The upcoming road trip will mark Portland's final regular-season road games against teams from the East in 2012.

Portland rounds out August with back-to-back home matches against Cascadia-rival Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday, Aug. 25, and the Colorado Rapids on Friday, Aug. 31.

Timbers, Widmer Brothers play host to "Brother's Day" for Big Brothers Big Sisters

The Timbers and founding partner Widmer Brothers Brewing are teaming up to play host to "Brother's Day" on Saturday at Widmer Brothers Brewing in downtown Portland from 5-8 p.m. Proceeds from the event, open to fans 21 and older, benefit Timbers community pillar partner Big Brothers Big Sisters Columbia Northwest.

Brother's Day will feature appearances by Timbers defender David Horst and goalkeeper Jake Gleeson and mascot Timber Joey. Additionally, there will be opportunities to win prizes and purchase a special $20 Timbers Reserves game package, which includes two tickets for the upcoming Timbers Reserves match on Aug. 26, a scarf, Timbers key chain bottle opener and two drink tokens for Brother's Day.

The 2012 Portland Timbers Corporate Cup kicks off this weekend

Starting this weekend, Portland companies come together to get out of the office and onto the pitch to compete for the 2012 Portland Timbers Corporate Cup. The annual event helps raise funds for Timbers community pillar partner Portland YouthBuilders .

The events kick off Friday at Kells Irish Restaurant and Pub with a tournament social for participants. The soccer action gets underway Saturday and Sunday at Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District's Howard M. Terpenning Complex as 14 teams from 12 corporations compete in three different divisions - men's recreational, men's competitive and co-ed - for the 2012 Timbers Corporate Cup. Highlighting Saturday is a match between a team of Timbers alumni and a Timbers Army squad at 11:30 a.m. The tournament's championship match will take place Saturday, Aug. 18, at JELD-WEN Field. Timbers to feature Portland food carts at remaining home matches this season

Popular Portland food carts are joining in on the match-day experience at JELD-WEN Field as the Timbers feature select food carts affiliated with the new Portland Timbers Food Cart Alliance (PTFCA) at remaining regular-season home games.

Determined by a fan vote, PTFCA carts voted to prepare their specialties at upcoming Timbers matches are The Frying Scotsman (Aug. 25), Pepper Box (Aug. 31) and Big-Ass Sandwiches (Sept. 15). Click here for additional info on each of the upcoming featured PTFCA carts.

The Timbers weekly television show, "Timbers In 30," features exclusive, inside access to the club and airs each Friday at 6:30 p.m. on KPTV Fox 12. Moved to a new, Friday night time slot this season, "Timbers In 30" focuses on inside access to the inner-workings and personalities of the club and provides detailed team and game analysis with in-studio appearances from Timbers players and coaches each week.

Radio: "Talk Timbers"

The Timbers' weekly radio talk show, "Talk Timbers," presented by JELD-WEN Windows & Doors regularly airs each Tuesdays at 6 p.m. (Pacific) on 750 AM The Game. Hosted by John Strong, "Talk Timbers" features interviews with club officials, coaches, players and special guests. The show will provide team news and the latest information from around MLS during the 2012 season.
