Miller Earns PCL Pitcher of the Week Honors

MEMPHIS, TN - The Pacific Coast League announced today Memphis Redbirds pitcher Shelby Miller has been named the league's Pitcher of the Week from

In two starts-July 30 against the Round Rock Express and August 5 against the Fresno Grizzlies-Miller tossed a combined 14 innings, fanning 16 while not issuing a single walk. The Texas native earned the win in both starts, allowing just four runs for a 2.57 ERA. Miller currently leads the Redbirds in strikeouts with 115 while ranking second in innings pitched with 106.1.

The 21-year-old is the first Redbird given PCL Pitcher of the Week honors this season. Miller was selected in the first round (19th overall) of the June 2009 free-agent draft out of Texas High School. The Cardinals #1 Prospect is scheduled to pitch Saturday, August 11 at AutoZone Park against Tacoma.

The Memphis Redbirds begin an eight-game homestand against the Tacoma Rainiers (Seattle Mariners) and the Salt Lake City Bees (Los Angeles Angels) Friday, August 10 with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. August 10 includes the kick-off to Elvis Week event with the first 5,000 fans through the gates receiving an Elvis bobblehead.
