JACKSON, Tenn. - The Jackson Generals (23-19 second half, 65-47 overall) used a Brad Miller RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to walk off with a 5-4 win over the Tennessee Smokies (20-23, 55-58) on Sunday night at Pringles Park in the middle contest of a five-game series.

With the score tied at four, Jackson's Kalian Sams led off the bottom of the ninth with a single to center. Sams advanced to second on a Nate Tenbrink sacrifice bunt. After reliever Brian Schlitter induced Denny Almonte to pop out to short for the second out, Miller singled to right and Sams beat right fielder Mike Burgess' throw to the plate to end the game.

The Smokies staked starter Eric Jokisch to a 1-0 lead before he took the mound when Logan Watkins singled, stole second, and scored on an RBI single to right by Southern League RBI leader Justin Bour in the top of the first. Tennessee made it 2-0 when Nelson Perez lined the first pitch of the second inning off the scoreboard in right field for his fifth home run of the season.

In the top of the fourth, the Smokies extended their lead to 3-0. Bour laced a leadoff double just inside the right field line before tagging up and moving to third on a fly out later in the frame, which allowed him to score on a wild pitch.

The Generals broke through in the bottom of the fourth, plating three runs to even the score. Stefen Romero led off the inning by homering off the top of the center field wall to cut Jackson's deficit to 3-1. Chih-Hsein Chiang then plated Joe Dunigan with the third of three straight singles to make it a 3-2 contest. The Generals tied it later in the inning on an RBI ground out off the bat of Sams.

Trey McNutt took over on the mound in the bottom of the sixth and the Generals loaded the bases before taking their first lead of the game when Tenbrink was hit by a pitch. The Smokies countered in the top of the seventh, though, tying the game, 4-4, when Matt Cerda scored on a throwing error. McNutt retired the side in both the seventh and eighth innings, allowing just one run on one hit over three frames.

Logan Bawcom (4-3) tossed a scoreless inning to earn the win while Schiltter (2-3) suffered the loss. Neither starter factored in the decision with Jokisch allowing three runs on five hits with six strikeouts over five innings while Jackson's Brandon Maurer yielded four runs (three earned) while striking out nine batters in 6.2 frames.

Bour turned in his third straight multi-hit contest, going 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI. Perez and Cerda each finished with two hits as well.

The Smokies and Generals continue their five-game series on Monday night at 8:05 p.m. ET at Pringles Park.

GAME NOTES : The Smokies have dropped five of their last six meetings against Jackson... Bour is now batting .304 - good for third in the Southern League. Bour entered Sunday batting over .300 for the first time since April 10.
