Tulsa to Host Frisco & Midland August 8-13

August 3, 2012 - Texas League (TL) Tulsa Drillers

The Drillers will return to ONEOK Field on Wednesday, August 8 to begin a six-game homestand against two Texas League South Division opponents. A three-game set with the South Division First-Half Champion Frisco RoughRiders (Texas Rangers) will be followed by a three-game series against the Midland Rockhounds (Oakland A's) that will conclude on August 13.

It will be the final time in 2012 (except for a potential Texas League Championship Series matchup) that the Drillers will host teams from the South Division. Tulsa holds 2-1 records against both teams this season at ONEOK Field.

A few promotional highlights that will be going on during the homestand are News On 6 Friday Night Fireworks on August 10, 2 News Works For You Family FUNday Sunday on August 12, and two separate editions of the Super Hero Bobblehead Series that will feature Mark "Captain Teixeirica" and Matt "Incredible Holliday" both courtesy of Primeaux Kia and Z104.5 The Edge.

Baseball legend Lee Smith will make an appearance at ONEOK Field to meet fans and sign autographs on Thursday, August 9.

In addition to the "Captain Teixeirica" bobblehead giveaway on August 9, it will also be Thirsty Thursday and will include an appearance by former Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals pitching legend Lee Smith. The likely future Hall of Famer will be on the concourse for much of the game to meet fans and sign autographs courtesy of Principal Financial Group and the Buzz Networks.

The other promotions during the homestand will include Fox 23 Bark in the Park and Tulsa's Channel 8 Grand Slam Saturday.

FOX 23 BARK IN THE PARK

Dog owners are invited to bring their furry friends to the ballpark courtesy of FOX 23 and 94.1 The Sound. All dogs are admitted free, but they must have proof of up-to-date vaccinations in order to gain admittance. Fans with dogs should enter the park through either the Oil Derrick Entrance or the Arvest (Brady Street) Entrance. Pawcasso's will be offering free doggie snacks on the concourse, plus you could win free grooming for a year!

The first 500 fans, ages 5 and up, to enter through the Oil Derrick and Arvest Entrances will receive a one-of-a-kind bobblehead of former Drillers first baseman Mark Teixeira compliments of Primeaux Kia and Z104.5 The Edge.

Lastly, it is also a Thirsty Thursday, with 12 ounce servings of Coors Light and Miller Lite and 16 ounce servings of Pepsi products on sale for only $1 each.

It's your next-to-last chance of the year to catch a News on 6 Friday Night Fireworks Show following the Drillers game with Frisco! TULSA'S CHANNEL 8 GRAND SLAM SATURDAY / TIN LUNCHBOXES / LIBRARY READING NIGHT / WILLIAMS BOOK DRIVE

Tulsa's Channel 8 presents Grand Slam Saturday with the first 1,000 school kids, ages 14 and under, to enter through either the Oil Derrick or Arvest Entrances receiving Hornsby Lunchboxes courtesy of Williams.

Kids who complete the Tulsa City-County Libraries Summer Reading Program will receive a free general admission ticket for the game. Their parents and other family members can also redeem the Summer Reading Groupon voucher to purchase tickets for $2 off the normal prices.

Fans are also encouraged to bring either new or used books to donate to the Gwen and Steve Malcolm Giving Library that is located at the Hutcherson YMCA. Books will be collected at the entrance gates and all donors will receive coupons redeemable for a free, 16 ounce Pepsi.

2 NEWS WORKS FOR YOU FAMILY FUNDAY SUNDAY SCHOOL FOLDERS / "SPLASH DOWN" NIGHT / HORNSBY'S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

It is a 2 News Works for You Family FUNday Sunday at ONEOK Field, presented by K95. The first 500 kids, ages 12 and under, entering through either the Arvest or Oil Derrick Entrances will receive Drillers folders that are perfect for school.

In addition, the first 500 young fans, ages 12 and under, will get a Kids Eat Free Coupon that is redeemable for a free hot dog, ice cream and milk courtesy of Borden Dairy and K95.

It is also a "Splash Down" Night with a special fire truck providing a giant water spout to help keep young fans cool courtesy of the Tulsa Fire Department and EMSA.

We will also be celebrating Hornsby's birthday with our own edition of the Olympics, featuring many of the area's mascots! Members of Hornsby's Kids Club can enjoy a special party with Hornsby and his friends from 6:00-7:00PM in Hornsby's Hangout. Free pizza and cupcakes will be served to attendees.

After the game, all kids will be allowed onto the field to run the bases courtesy of Danny Beck Chevrolet.
