Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Quakes squandered a masterful performance by Andres Santiago in a 3-1 loss to the Inland Empire 66ers on Tuesday at The Epicenter.

Santiago only allowed five base runners in seven scoreless innings, surrendering just three hits and two walks. He struck out 10, just one short of his season high, including six in a row over the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

Santiago's only road-block came in the seventh, where he got out of a jam with runners on the corners and only one out thanks to a terrific play by Joc Pederson in center field. Pederson grabbed a line drive off the bat of Rolando Gomez and then doubled up Randal Grichuk at first base to get out of the jam.

Ryan O'Sullivan (1-2) came on to work the eighth, but couldn't quite wriggle out of a bases-loaded jam as a Charlie Mirabal error followed by a wild pitch gave the 66ers a 2-1 lead. O'Sullivan blew his fourth save and took his second loss of the season, despite both runs being unearned.

The only offense the Quakes could muster came in the third as Joc Pederson hit an infield single and advanced to second on an errant throw from 66ers' pitcher Andrew Smith. With two outs, Steve Domecus drove in Pederson and notched his eighth RBI of the year with a hard-hit single up the middle.

The Quakes left 10 men on-base throughout the night and went 1-for-16 with runners in scoring position.

Manuel Flores (2-1) came in to pitch the seventh and earned his second win of the year. He struck out one and walked two.

Daniel Tillman retired the Quakes in order in the ninth to earn his fifth save of the year.

Shortly after the game, Santiago got the news that he is headed to Double-A Chattanooga to join the Lookouts. He leaves the Quakes with a 5-3 mark and a 3.96 ERA in 16 appearances.

The Quakes (15-23, 52-56) will look to rebound on Wednesday, sending Garrett Gould (4-7) to the mound against Inland Empire's Fabio Martinez (0-5).
