Clinton LumberKings News Release
Clinton, IA - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers have owned the Clinton LumberKings in 2012 and they continued their dominance on Monday night with a 7-0 win at Ashford University Field.
For the third time in three starts, Seon-Gi Kim struggled out of the gates and put Clinton in a hole. Max Walla belted an opposite field solo home run in the top of the first inning to give Wisconsin a 1-0 lead. They opened up a big lead in the third on a two-run double from Brandon Macias and an opposite field two-run blast by Nick Ramirez. Despite not playing in the first game of the series, Ramirez collected five hits in the series with two homers, two doubles, three runs scored and six RBIs.
Staked with the 5-0 lead, Matt Miller pounded the strike zone and let his defense do the work behind him. The University of Michigan product pitched six shutout innings and notched his fourth win in as many starts against Clinton this year. Left-hander Stephen Peterson worked the final three innings to pick up his third save of the year.
Clinton had opportunities in nearly every innings to score runs. They left runners on base in every inning except the second when they went in order. Their best chance to get back into the game was in the sixth inning when Chris Taylor and Ji-Man Choi had consecutive hits to lead off the frame. Dan Paolini struck out, Kevin Rivers flied to center and Mike Dowd bounced out to short.
A bright spot for Clinton was left-hander Kyle Hunter who worked in relief of Kim. The southpaw worked four perfect innings and recorded a season-high six strikeouts.
Clinton finishes the six-game home stand with a 4-2 record and now sets out on an eight-game road trip. The LumberKings travel west to Cedar Rapids to begin a four-game series with the Kernels. Clinton sends right-hander Bobby Shore (2-2, 2.15) to the hill to faced right-hander Austin Wood (5-10, 4.56) of Cedar Rapids. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM.
