Inland Empire Slams JetHawks, 15-1

The Inland Empire 66ers (48-57, 17-18) was the King of Pop on Michael Jackson Night in Lancaster as they pummeled the JetHawks (55-49, 18-16)with four home runs en route to a 15-1 victory. 66ers first baseman C.J. Cron had the thriller with a third inning grand slam, his second of the week and third of the year to cap off a monster night. Cron finished the night going 2-for-4 with six RBIs to give him a minor league leading 101 on the year.The 66ers offense had every single batter get a hit in the game, including catcher Jett Bandy who hit a RBI double off the wall. Bandy finished the day going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Outfielders Randal Grichuk and Drew Heid contributed home runs of both types as Grichuk hit his 12th of the year over the fence and Heid had his 4th of the year in the park. Second baseman Taylor Lindsey joined the home run party with one of his own, his 6th of the year. Inland Empire went 8-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
66ers starter Max Russell went five innings, giving up one earned run, and getting two batters to beat it in a strong pitching performance for the win. Russell improved his record to 5-10. JetHawks starter Blair Walters made his California debut with a loss as he was hammered by Inland Empire for 9 earned runs in 2 1/3 innings.
The 66ers will continue their series with the Lancaster Jethawks for a three game series starting tomorrow at 7:00 pm.
