Series Opener Ends in 15-1 Loss

LANCASTER, CA - The JetHawks allowed 13 runs in the first three innings and eventually fell to the Inland Empire 66eres, 15-1, in the series opener on Friday night at The Hangar.Newly acquired left-hander Blair Walters (0-1) had a rough outing in his Astros organization debut. The 66ers put up five runs on six hits against him in the first inning.
With runners at second and third and one out, C.J. Cron hit a ground-rule double to score two and put Inland Empire on the board. Rolando Gomez singled to score Cron, Randal Grichuk singled and then Ryan Jones and Jett Bandy hit back-to-back run scoring doubles.
In the top of the second Andrew Heid led off the inning with an inside-the-park home run. He hit a high fly ball to right-center field and George Springer leaped but couldn't make the catch. The ball hit hard off the wall and rolled back into centerfield allowing Heid to come all the way around and score standing up.
Inland Empire put the game away with seven runs in the third inning. Gomez singled, Jones walked and Bandy singled in a run with one out to chase Walters from the game. He finished with nine runs allowed over 2 1/3 innings.
Jorge De Leon took over and had a tough time getting settled. After a single, walk and another single he struck out Kaleb Cowart for the inning's second out. Cron came to the plate and launched a grand slam to right field giving Cron six RBIs in the game and a league-leading 101 RBIs on the season. The 66ers led 13-0 after the third.
Lancaster got its lone run in the bottom of the fourth. Erik Castro hit a one-out double, his second hit of the night, to left field and eventually scored on a Chris Epps single up the middle.
Taylor Lindsey hit a homer off De Leon in the fifth to get the run back and Randal Grichuk hit a line drive home run off Jose Trinidad in the ninth for the game's final run.
Chia-Jen Lo tossed two perfect innings in relief in his first appearance at The Hangar this season.
The JetHawks (18-16, 55-49) will take on the 66ers (17-18, 48-57) in the second game of the series on Saturday night at The Hangar. Tyson Perez (7-2, 5.01) will take on Nick Maronde (2-1, 1.87). First pitch is at 7:00 pm. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a JetHawks t-shirt presented by Beaven Insurance & Financial Services.
