Engel Beltre Named Texas League "Player of the Week"

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (JULY 23, 2012) - The Frisco RoughRiders are proud to announce that outfielder Engel Beltre (pronounced "Angel BELL-tray") has been honored as the Texas League's "Player of the Week" for the week of July 16 - 22. Beltre joins Mike Olt (May 28 - June 3) as the only RoughRiders that have received the honor this season.

Beltre, 22, batted .333 (10 for 30) last week with three home runs, two doubles, a triple, four RBI and seven runs scored. He homered in three consecutive games in Frisco's series against San Antonio. For the season, Beltre is batting .244 with ten home runs (a career-high), ten doubles, 12 triples, 38 RBI and 54 runs scored. He leads the Texas League in triples and is tied for second in all of Minor League Baseball in the category; he also is the RoughRiders' all-time leader in three-baggers with 22. He is third in the TL in steals (25) and first in at bats (401).

A native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Beltre was originally acquired by Texas in a 2007 trade with Boston. He, outfielder David Murphy and pitcher Kason Gabbard were dealt to the Rangers in exchange for Eric Gagne. He signed with the Red Sox on July 2, 2006.

The 'Riders conclude their series at Corpus Christi tonight at 7:05 before continuing to Midland to begin a three-game set on Tuesday.
