Forest City Owls News Release

Forest City, NC- Nate Chong hit his team-leading 5th home run of the year, but the Owls dropped a 4-3 decision to the Martinsville Mustangs on Thursday night. Josh Powell struck out Chong with the bases loaded and Forest City trailing by a run in the 8th inning. Powell then fanned Champ Rowland and Justin Bryan to end the game with the winning run on second base.

Both teams picked up a run in the 1st inning. Aaron Stubblefield was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on a passed ball and an error. Stubblefield came in to score after John Faircloth stole second base off Luis Paula and the throw to second ended up in the dirt. Chong countered the unearned run with his solo shot off Taylor Hart, the second time Chong's homered against Hart this year.

Forest City took its only lead at 2-1 in the 5th inning when Nick McQuail scored on a wild pitch from Hart. The Mustangs rallied right back and got two runs in the 6th inning on an RBI triple by Chris Branigan and an RBI base hit by Ryan Bull. Both runs were given up by Paula as he was tagged with his third loss of the season.

The Owls stranded runners in scoring position in three of the final four innings. The only exception was the 7th when Will Chandler grounded into an inning-ending double play with runners on first and second. Forest City left 14 runners on base on the night. Hart picked up his first win of the season despite giving up four walks and hitting five batters. Powell recorded the save, his 5th of the year. Kurt Seiders doubled in a run off Kyle Neely in the 8th inning that cut Martinsville's lead from 4-2, to 4-3.

The Owls head to Martinsville tomorrow to wrap up the second half of the home-and-home series. Forest City's next home game will be Saturday night against the Florence RedWolves. It will be 70's Night at McNair Field with a fireworks show after the game. Call 828-245-0000 to order tickets or stop by the ticket booth at McNair Field.
