Juan Gutierrez to Join Naturals

SPRINGDALE, AR - The Naturals' parent club, the Kansas City Royals announced a transaction on Thursday affecting the Northwest Arkansas Naturals' roster. Right-hander Juan Gutierrez will join the Naturals after making four minor league rehab appearances.

Gutierrez has appeared in four games this season all with the Arizona League Royals. He went 0-1 with a 17.36 ERA in four and two-thirds innings. He last pitched in the major leagues in 2011 with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He posted a 5.40 ERA in 18.1 innings of work, while striking out 23. The right-hander saved 24 games for the Diamondbacks over the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

Gutierrez last pitched in the Texas League in 2006 as a member of the Corpus Christi Hooks. He went 8-4 with a 3.04 ERA in 20 starts that season, fanning 106 hitters in 103.2 innings of work.

He was signed by the Royals as a minor league free agent following the 2011 season. He will wear number 39 for the Naturals. Following the transaction, the Naturals' roster is at the Texas League limit of 25 active players.
