McMahan Rattles off Walk-Off

GRAND CHUTE, WI - Ben McMahan hit a solo home run off Matt Shelton with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning to send 4,467 fans happily home with a walk-off 10th inning home run Wednesday night in a 5-4 win for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers over the Great Lakes Loons.For the fifth time in six games, the Loons surrendered at least one first inning run, allowing two in the opening frame on a two-run blast by Nick Ramirez. In the top of the second, the Loons responded with a two-run double by Pedro Guerrero.
The Loons took the lead with two in the third on an RBI triple by Joe Winker followed by a run-scoring single by O'Koyea Dickson.
Cameron Garfield's solo home run pulled Wisconsin to within a run in the fourth. Then in the sixth, McMahan tied the score with an RBI double. The game remained tied, 4-4, until McMahan's extra innings heroics.
Stephen Peterson (3-2) notched the win with 2/3 scoreless innings, but the pitching hero for Wisconsin was reliever Jacob Barnes. The right-hander lasted 6 1/3 innings out of the bullpen and did not allow a run, striking out six.
Shelton (1-4) took the loss for the Loons. He bailed the team out of a bases loaded, two-out jam in the eighth, worked a 1-2-3 ninth and retired the first two batters in the 10th before surrendering McMahan's blast.
Raydel Sanchez was charged with four runs (all earned) in six frames. Jose Dominguez and Mike Thomas followed with scoreless relief outings.
Guerrero finished the game with three hits.
The Loons (11-14 second half, 45-50 overall) continue their three-game series Thursday night at Fox Cities Stadium. Game time is 8:05pm ET. Milwaukee Brewers starting catcher Jonathan Lucroy is slated to rehabilitate a broken right hand during the game in the Timber Rattlers' lineup. Lefty Greg Wilborn, a member of the 2010 and '11 Loons squads, makes his return to the Midwest League after stops this season in Rancho Cucamonga and the Arizona League. Right-hander Matt Miller (7-6, 4.29) is slated to start for the home team.
