NORWICH - The Connecticut Tigers are pleased to announce a unique pre-game event at Dodd Stadium featuring a LIFE STAR helicopter landing. The event will take place prior to the Tigers' game on Saturday, July 21st against the Lowell Spinners, Class-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox at 7:05 p.m.
At 5:45 p.m., LIFE STAR's crew will land the helicopter in the parking lot of the stadium.
Following its landing, the crew will proceed to meet fans at the front gate from 6-6:30 PM. The helicopter will take off at 6:30 PM to land in the outfield. At 6:50 PM, members of the crew will then deliver the first pitch to the mound. This special event is weather-permitting and contingent on LIFE STAR not being on a rescue mission.
LIFE STAR is a critical care helicopter service which responds to and provides air transport for a variety of patients who require immediate care at a tertiary care facility. It staffs two helicopters 24 hours a day, seven days a week. One aircraft is based on the rooftop helipad at Hartford Hospital, and the other is based at The William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich.
Each crew consists of a flight nurse/paramedic, flight respiratory therapist/paramedic, pilot, EMS communication specialist and mechanic.
LIFE STAR is available to all emergency/critical care patients within a 150-mile radius surrounding its bases in Hartford and Norwich. Approximately 1,200 patients are transported annually and more than 20,000 patients have been transported to date.
The Connecticut Tigers are the Class-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers and play in the New York-Penn League. The Tigers saw a 23% increase in attendance in 2011 (the 4th highest in Minor League Baseball), and are entering their 3rd season at Dodd Stadium.
