STATEN ISLAND, NY - The Staten Island Yankees plated three runs in the first inning on Wednesday morning and were able to hold off the IronBirds, 3-2. After surrendering three runs on four hits in the first inning, RHP Sebastian Vader tossed four scoreless innings to end his outing and retired the final 10 batters he faced.

After a scoreless top of the first, the Yankees jumped on RHP Sebastian Vader in the bottom of the first. With one down, RF Exicardo Cayones and 1B Saxon Butler hit back-to-back singles. Following a Peter O'Brien strikeout, DH Matt Snyder hit a two-run triple to dead centerfield. Snyder's first professional triple gave the Baby Bombers an early two-run lead. CF Ravel Santana followed up Snyder with a RBI double.

The three-run advantage proved to be enough for the Yankees.

Aberdeen scored their first run off LHP Tim Flight in the fourth inning. RF Roderick Bernadina led off the frame with a walk. With 3B Torsten Boss at the plate, Bernadina stole second base. Boss then singled home Berndina to put the Birds on the board. The IronBirds ran themselves out of fourth however as Boss was caught stealing and 1B Christian Walker was doubled up on a Joel Hutter fly out to left.

The IronBirds scored another run in the fifth inning on a Scott Kalush ground out but 3B Dudley Leonora, who doubled in fifth, was stranded on third base. In the seventh, Joel Hutter was left stranded on third and in the eighth, 2B Anthony Caronia was left on third.

RHP Taylor Garrison closed out the game for the Yankees with a perfect ninth inning of work.

Tim Flight (1-2) notched his first professional win on the afternoon while Sebastian Vader (0-3) got the loss.

In his first appearance in Aberdeen, LHP Bennett Parry tossed three scoreless innings.

The IronBirds will visit the Hudson Valley Renegades on Thursday night for the start of a two-game series. RHP David Richardson (1-1, 2.66) will take the hill for Aberdeen in the series opener. First pitch from Wappingers Falls, NY is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with coverage beginning on IronBirds Radio Network at 6:50 p.m.
