Marlins Spoil Strong Starting Pitching, Fall to OwlsJuly 13, 2012 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain) Morehead City Marlins
Taylor Robinson was pitching a no-hitter for the Marlins through the first 6 1/3 innings of baseball before issuing a one-out walk to Alex Close. The next batter Will Chandler erased the no-hitter, shutout and Marlins lead on one swing of the bat, launching a two-run home run to right-center field to give the Owls a 2-1 edge.
In the top of the eighth, the Owls again struck for two more runs on an RBI-double by Bryan Aanderud and a run-scoring single from Alex Close to close the scoring at 4-1.
The Marlins took the lead in the fifth frame when Chad Shannon doubled and scored on a single from Robbie Rea.
Luis Paula (3-2) picked up the win for Forest City, tossing 6 1/3 innings and allowing just one run on five hits while striking out five. Robinson (3-3) suffered the loss, allowing two runs on just one hit while walking two and striking out eight in seven frames.
The Marlins are back in action tomorrow as they travel to Virginia to take on the Peninsula Pilots. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. with the live broadcast on CPL WebPass beginning approximately 10 minutes prior to first pitch.
Notes: In was the second time the Owls defeated the Marlins by a score of 4-1 this season... Jordan Kutzer pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the ninth for Morehead City in his first appearance since June 19... With Shannon's double, he now rides a six-game hitting streak... The Marlins have now lost six straight games.
