Toronto FC Trade de Guzman to FC Dallas

Toronto FC announced Friday that the club has acquired forward Andrew Wiedeman from FC Dallas in exchange for midfielder Julian de Guzman.

"Losing someone like Julian is never easy but this deal gives us increased flexibility to address areas where we have more pressing needs and opens up a designated player spot for our club," said Toronto FC Head Coach and Director of Soccer Operations, Paul Mariner. "On behalf of everyone at Toronto FC, I'd like to thank Julian for his contributions to the club and wish him well in his future endeavours."

Wiedeman, 22, was drafted in the second round, 21st overall by FC Dallas in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft. The Generation adidas player has made five appearances this season for Dallas with one start. Wiedeman went to the University of California; where he scored 30 goals and added 15 assists in his three seasons with the Golden Bears. Wiedeman was also a three time All-Pac 10 selection during his collegiate career.

de Guzman, 31, originally signed with Toronto FC as the club's first Designated Player on September 11, 2009. The midfielder made 65 league appearances during his time with Toronto FC. Prior to joining Toronto, he spent time with Deportivo La Coruna of the Spanish La Liga and Hannover 96 of the German Bundesliga. de Guzman has earned 56 caps for the Canadian National Team during his career, his most recent appearance came during a 2014 World Cup qualifying match against Honduras on June 12.
