Auburn Doubledays News Release

AUBURN, N.Y. - The Auburn Doubledays (14-5) again battled back when down to their last three outs, and this time it took one extra inning for the Doubledys to again walk-off as winners at home, 8-7, over the Hudson Valley Renegades (10-10) at Falcon Park on Saturday night.

In the bottom of the tenth RF Wander Ramos lead off the inning with a double to center field, his second extra-base hit of the night. Shortstop Wes Schill advanced him over to third with a sacrifice bunt, and after two walks to load the bases 3B Carlos Alvarez drove Ramos home with a single to right-center to seal the win for Auburn.

The Doubledays also had to score a run in the ninth to push the game into extra innings. Again it was the leadoff hitter in the inning who ended up scoring. Second baseman Tony Renda got aboard with a walk, and with one out he was able to score from first on a double to right by 1B Shawn Pleffner. Pleffner had two doubles on the night in five trips to the plate.

Auburn was in a position where it had to come back because of a big four-run seventh for the Renegades. While Hudson Valley did have two hits in the inning, it was three defensive errors that really cost the Doubledays. After a leadoff single for 3B Leonardo Reginatto, LF Marty Gannt reached second thanks to a two-base throwing error by Alvarez. Two batters, one wild pitch (which allowed Reginatto to score from third) and one strikeout later, 2B Tommy Coyle reached first on a fielding error by Schill. A couple of walks then drove in the second run of the inning and loaded the bases for CF Deshun Dixon, who lined a single to left to drive home the third and fourth runs of the frame. Dixon advanced to second on his hit because of a fielding error by LF Estarlin Martinez, but he was left stranded at second to end the inning.

Hudson Valley also took the initial lead in the game in the top of the third on an RBI double by catcher Luke Maile. Auburn answered right back with a run of its own in the bottom of the frame thanks to a solo blast over the center field wall by Ramos. The Doubledays scored one run each of the next two innings, and got two in the sixth to build a 5-1 advantage, which the four-run seventh for Hudson Valley quickly erased. Each team scored in the eighth, but the Renegades two runs in the inning trumped the Doubledays one run, to give Hudson Valley the one-run lead heading to the ninth.

It was RHP Travis Henke (3-0) who earned the win for Auburn, going 2.1 innings without surrendering a run on one hit and three walks. LHP Brett Mooneyham made his Doubledays debut and his first professional start by going 1.2 innings, and giving up one hit and two walks while striking out two. RHP Marcus Jensen (1-1) got tagged with the loss, going 2.1 innings and allowing three earned runs on four hits and four walks.

The Doubledays continue their three game series with the Renegades on Sunday, July 8. Auburn will send RHP Taylor Jordan (0-0) to the mound for his fourth official start of the year. He will square off against RHP Taylor Guerrieri (0-1) for the Renegades. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05pm. Sundays are Time Warner Customer Discount nights at Falcon Park, with special ticket discounts for Time Warner customers. All Children 12 and under are also invited to run the bases following Sunday's game courtesy of the Tompkins Trust Company.
