Media Release - Meet & Greet with Bob Brenly at Smokies Park Monday

July 6, 2012 - Southern League (SL) Tennessee Smokies

KODAK, Tenn. - Current Chicago Cubs television analyst Bob Brenly will be at Smokies Park on Monday, July 9. Brenly will be present for a special meet and greet in the Double Play Café, where he will speak to fans and sign autographs during the Smokies' 7:15 p.m. game against the Chattanooga Lookouts. Brenly will be available to fans, free of charge, from 7:30 - 8:30.

Brenly is currently in his eighth year in the broadcast booth with the Cubs after spending the previous seven seasons working in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization. He served as Diamondbacks' manger form 2001-04, leading Arizona to a World Series Championship in his rookie year as a skipper. He completed his four-year managerial career with a record of 303-262.

The former catcher spent the majority of his career playing of the San Francisco Giants, making his major league debut on August 18, 1981 at the age of 27. Over his nine-year career, Brenly played in 871 games, accumulating 647 hits for a .247 career batting average along with 91 home runs and 333 RBIs. Known for his defensive play behind the plate, Brenly finished his major league career with a .984 fielding percentage. In 1984, his .314 batting average earned him a spot as a reserve on the National League All-Star team.

In addition to his time in the booth with the Cubs, Brenly has works three World Series, two All-Star Games and a number of Divisional Series and League Championship Series for Fox Sports and Turner Sports.
