Ogden Offense Returns in 9-5 Idaho Falls LossJuly 4, 2012 - Pioneer League (PL) Idaho Falls Chukars
The Chukars had held the #1 offense in the Pioneer League to just six runs while winning the last two games, and looked good early Tuesday as Spencer Patton allowed just one unearned run through the first four innings. Everything changed starting in the fifth however, as Ogden exploded for six runs on six hits to chase Patton from the game and take a 7-1 lead.
The Chukars would rally in the ninth for four runs off of Raptors reliever Scott Griggs, but fell short of the comeback when third baseman Nick Cuckovich struck out to end the game.
The contest started off as a pitcher's duel, with Patton and Ogden starter Ross Stripling each allowing just an unearned run through the first four innings. While Patton and the Chukars bullpen let the game get out of hand starting in the fifth, Stripling was followed by reliever Derek Cone who threw 4.1 shutout innings which allowed the Raptors to put the game out of reach.
Offensively, DH Parker Morin continued his hot hitting with a 3-4 night complete with a double and an RBI, while first baseman Jared Schlehuber went 2-3 with a double and a run scored.
Patton (0-2) took the loss for the Chukars with a final line of 4.2 innings pitched, five runs allowed, four earned, on seven hits with a walk and six strikeouts. Cone (1-0) earned the win for Ogden with his 4.1 shutout innings on four hits, two walks and two Ks.
With the loss the Chukars drop to 8-8 while the Raptors improve to 11-5. The two clubs have split the first four games of the five-game series, with the rubber match scheduled for Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m.
