Altoona Curve (40-41)

Double-A Affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates

LHP Darin Gorski (5-4, 4.14) vs. RHP Brandon Cumpton (8-6, 3.21)

Game #82 - Tuesday, July 3, 2012

NYSEG Stadium - Binghamton, NY - 6:35 PM

LAST GAME: The B-Mets stranded 10 men, including three in the ninth inning, and went just 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position in a 6-2 loss to the Altoona Curve last night. It was Binghamton's seventh-straight loss and ninth in a row at home. The B-Mets matched a season-high with four errors, leading to three unearned runs. Gonzalez Germen suffered the loss, allowing five runs (three earned) on eight hits over seven innings. Curve starter Gerrit Cole fanned five and allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits over 5.2 innings in the win. Nathan Baker retired all four batters he faced and Hunter Strickland collected six outs to earn his first save since April 2009. Juan Lagares singled home a run in the third and Wilmer Flores doubled in a run in the sixth.

STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP: LHP Darin Gorski (5-4, 4.14) makes his 14th start of the season and second against the Curve. Gorski supplied a quality start, but took the no-decision in his last appearance versus the Bowie Baysox on June 28. The southpaw allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits over six innings, but the Baysox posted four runs against the B-Mets bullpen to earn an 8-6 win. In Gorski's first start against the Curve on June 16, he allowed six runs and matched a season-high by allowing ten hits in a loss. It was Gorski's only loss in the month of June. Selected in the seventh round of the 2009 draft, Gorski is in his first season with the B-Mets.

RHP Brandon Cumpton (8-6, 3.21) takes the mound for his 16th start and second versus the B-Mets. The righty has factored into the decision in all but one his starts and thrown at least five innings thirteen times. The Georgia native defeated the Harrisburg Senators in his last start with six shutout innings. He struck out four and allowed just three hits. Cumpton suffered the loss in his first start against the B-Mets on June 15, Binghamton's only win against Altoona this season. He allowed four runs and matched a season-high with seven hits allowed in 5.1 innings. Selected in the 9th round of the 2010 draft out of Georgia Tech, he is in his first year with the Curve.

AND IT STRETCHES ON: The loss last night extended Binghamton's losing streak to a season-long seven games. They have dropped nine consecutive at home. The last 0-8 B-Mets homestand came in August & September 2004 when they were swept away by the Portland Sea Dogs and Reading Phillies in two four-game series.

HOMECOOKING SITTING POORLY: Since defeating the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on May 28 at home, the B-Mets have won just three times at NYSEG Stadium, compiling a 3-13 record. Overall, they are 15-25 at home, the second-worst record in the Eastern League. A loss tonight would guarantee a stretch of four weeks without a home win with Binghamton's next home game coming up on July 12.

SAVING THEIR POWER FOR THE B-METS: As a team, the Curve have hit just 43 home runs, the second-fewest in the Eastern League. They have hit nine of their homers, including four in this series, against the B-Mets. Stefan Welch leads the charge with three.

FLO-ING: B-Mets infielder Wilmer Flores has jumped right into life in Double-A. Promoted from St. Lucie (High-A) on June 21, the Venezuelan has logged just 12 games in a B-Mets uniform and has already compiled six multi-hit games. He is hitting .383 with four doubles, a home run and ten RBI. Defensively, he has played third, second and first for Binghamton.

SEE YA, BINGO: Tonight is Binghamton's final game in the Southern Tier in the first half. The B-Mets hit the road for a six-game swing before enjoying a pair of days off for the All-Star Break. Binghamton will make their only trips of the season to Richmond and Altoona.

NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets trek south to Richmond, Virginia for their only road series against the Flying Squirrels. The three-game series starts tomorrow night at 6:35 PM in front of an already sold-out crowd at The Diamond. RHP Greg Peavey takes the ball for the B-Mets against RHP Craig Westcott.
