Ice Flyers Acquire Forward and Defenseman from RiverKingsJune 29, 2012 - Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) Pensacola Ice Flyers
Ice Flyers' head coach Gary Graham said. "My goal for this season is to build one of the toughest team to play against in this league. After watching game film on Gabriel and Deven, I feel that both of these players will have a significant impact on our team in the coming season."
Boutin-Gagnon will add size and toughness to the blue line for the Ice Flyers. The 5' 11", 215-pound defenseman played in 59 games last season, scored two goals, added 11 assists and finished with a +4 rating. He also finished the season with the fourth most penalty minutes in the SPHL with 191, including 20 fighting majors.
Graham stated, "Boutin-Gagnon is a tough, physical player who takes care of his own zone first. With the style of hockey I anticipate this team playing, he has the potential to play a substantial amount of minutes."
Forward Deven Stillar will add a scoring component to Graham's offense as well as a gritty work ethic. Last season as a rookie, he recorded 13 goals, 10 assists and 68 penalty minutes in 45 games. Stillar, playing junior hockey in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, played 156 games, which resulted in 84 goals and 89 assists for 173 points and 263 penalty minutes.
"Stillar has a tremendous up side to his game," Graham said of his new forward. "He has skill and an edge that I really like. I plan to put him in great situations and give him the opportunity to excel in his second year in the SPHL." Graham also added, "After speaking with colleagues in Saskatchewan, I feel confident that Stillar knows what it takes to win championships."
The Ice Flyers want to thank Chris for his time in Pensacola as an Ice Flyer and wishes him good luck with the RiverKings.
