Mariners fall apart during the top of the 10th, lose 8-1June 19, 2012 - Appalachian League (ApL) Pulaski Mariners
Ogando finished up throwing seven innings, allowing one hit, one run, no walks, and three strikeouts for his opening day start. He was relieved in the top of the 8th by Lars Huijer who managed to toss a three up three down inning.
Mariners right fielder Reggie Lawson led off the bottom of the 8th inning in grand fashion, driving a solo shot over the 356 sign in right center field to tie up the game 1 to 1.
Burlington's first baseman Mark Threlkeld hit a single to start the top of the ninth but Huijer eliminated the threat by getting next batter, Jose Rodriguez, to ground into a 6-4-3 double play.
The excruciating pain came to the Mariners during the top of the 10th inning where Huijer hit the first and second batters he faced. He then gave up an RBI double to Burlington right fielder Fred Ford followed by an intentional walk in order to load the bases. Mariners coaching staff made the decision to relieve Huijer at this point, bringing in RHP Ricardo Pereira. To their dismay, Cameron Gallagher stroked a two RBI double which put the game at 5-1 Burlington.
The Royals ended up scoring seven runs in the top of the 10th making the score 8-1 which would turn out to be the final. Optimistically speaking, the game provided many shining performances such as Ogando's 4 perfect innings and Lawson's game tying homer.
Pulaski will play host to Burlington again tomorrow, 7 p.m., for the second game of their opening home stand.
