New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - The eighth largest crowd in team history, 8,226, welcomed the Fisher Cats back to Northeast Delta Dental Stadium on Tuesday night. New Hampshire (25-43) rewarded the bunch with a third straight win, 6-1, over the first place Reading Phillies (39-29). The victory ties the longest of the season for the Fisher Cats as the team begins a seven-game homestand against Reading and Harrisburg.
The Fisher Cats broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning with a two-out single from Sean Ochinko. With the bases loaded, Ochinko dumped a liner into left field to put New Hampshire up 2-0 against Reading starter Austin Hyatt (L; 1-1)
The two-out theme continued as nine men came to the plate in the sixth inning. With two down and men at first and second, Justin Jackson plated the first run for a 3-0 advantage. John Tolisano then drove home a pair on a wall-ball double to center. After a pitching change, Ryan Goins second hit of the game scored Tolisano, pushing the advantage to 6-0.
Chad Jenkins (W; 3-6) was the beneficiary of the two-out run support, although he didn't need much help. The righty tossed seven scoreless innings to earn his first win since he beat Binghamton on April 24. Jenkins scattered five hits, walked two, and struck out three. He has now allowed just one earned run over his last 13.0 innings. Matt Daly (one ER) and newcomer Steve Marek each tossed an inning to finish off the victory.
All nine starters had a hit for the Fisher Cats, led by Goins' three-hit night. The shortstop now leads the league with 86 base knocks. Mark Sobolewski extended his hitting streak to four games with a fourth-inning double. Rehabbing outfielder Ben Francisco doubled and walked on the night.
The Fisher Cats continue their series with Reading on Wednesday night at 7:05 PM. The first 1,000 kids will receive a Fisher Cats jersey courtesy of Coca-Cola and POWERADE. It's a Northeast Delta Dental Oral Health Challenge Night and fans can win prizes by playing USA Subs Baseball Bingo. For tickets and a full list promotions, visit www.nhfishercats.com.
Radio coverage of Wednesday's game begins at 6:45 PM with Tom Gauthier and Bob Lipman on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and www.nhfishercats.com.
