Raiders to Face Florida in Playoffs

June 18, 2012 - Ultimate Indoor Football League (UIFL)
Lakeland Raiders News Release

Lakeland, Fl- The Playoff picture is now clear. With the Eastern Kentucky Drillers suspended for the post-season, the path to the 2012 UIFL Championship has just one stop - a road game against the undefeated Florida Tarpons. The Tarpons have bedeviled the Raiders in four consecutive matchups, but this will be the first time the two teams have met in a win-or-go-home postseason contest.

The Raiders have faced the Tarpons with three different starters at Quarterback this season, and none of them will be lining up under center when they meet in the playoffs on June 25th. Myqual Spann, who started the season as a coach, filled in at Running Back along the way, and finished the regular season as the back up QB, will put his extensive football knowledge to good use as the starting Quarterback for the Raiders push to the Championship.

Unlike his predecessors at the position, Spann has played at the highest level in the sport of football - the NFL. In his career, Spann has played all over the field on both sides of the ball - QB, TE, FB, long-snapper, Defensive lineman. He has won two league championships and most recently played with the Orlando Predators of the AFL.

Spann is not taking his longevity in a violent sport nor his latest foray onto the field for granted. "I'm lucky to have a good offensive line to block for me, "says a humble Spann, who last played QB in 2004 for the Corpus Christi Hammer Heads. "They give me a little bit more time than the average person. I owe it all to them."

A player like Spann is a rare commodity. He's got a breadth of football experience that few can match, making him akin to having a coach in the huddle. We'll find out Monday what kind of a difference an advantage like that will make in the playoffs.

On Monday June 25th the Tarpons will host the Lakeland Raiders at Germain Arena. Kickoff is 7:30pm and doors open at 6:30pm. Tickets start at $7.00 and can be purchased at the Germain Arena box office, the Tarpons office, or through ticketmaster.com .

Group tickets can be purchase for groups of 20 or more at the Florida Tarpons team office at 13723 Jetport Commerce Parkway, Suite 13, Fort Myers, FL 33913 or call 239-225-6374 . Group ticket prices are $7.00, $12.00, and $18.00 depending on the location.
